Black comedy flick “Echorsis” wins critics, gets second week run

Black comedy film “Echorsis: Sabunutan Between Good And Evil” was given a second week run in key Metro Manila after it fought hard from being pulled out in cinemas.

The critically acclaimed horror-comedy film starring John Lapus, Kean Cipriano, and Alex Medina, are still screening in Market! Market!, Festival Mall, Robinsons Galleria, SM North Edsa, SM Manila, and SM Megamall to date. It’s producer Chris Cahilig of Insight 360 hopes that more cinemas will open its door to the film since it’s the only Filipino movie screening this week.

What is it like to battle with evil face to face? Callalily vocalist and actor Kean Cipriano knows for sure.

If you need professional help in overcoming the booty calls of temptation, the badass rocker is the right person to ask after he got a little steamy with hunky devils in the much-awaited horror-comedy film, “Echorsis: Sabunutan Between Good and Evil.”

Kean, in what he calls as his most challenging role yet, is excited because we are seeing a different side of him. What made the task exceptionally challenging, says the Callalily frontman, is his role which happens to be a gay priest.

John Lapus plays closeted gay in horror-comedy flick ‘Echorsis’

Topnotch comedian and television host John Lapus plays a closeted gay character raised in an uptight religious family in the much-awaited horror-comedy film, “Echorsis: Sabunutan Between Good and Evil”—and he is endlessly amused by it.

“Gosh, my character, Kristoff, and I have contrasting experiences with being gay. I was never ‘paminta’ (closeted). Never ako naging stiff and never kong itinago kung sino talaga ako,” John says.

And unlike Kristoff, too, John did not go through a traumatic “coming out” moment with his family. His mom, especially, had accepted his sexuality early on.

“Echorsis” lead star Alex Medina flattered by growing gay fan base

Mention Alex Medina’s name when chatting with a gay friend and chances are your chum will show all signs of being totally smitten.

Indeed, the ruggedly handsome actor and lead star of the horror-comedy film, “Echorsis: Sabunutan Between Good and Evil,” has been the object of the local gay community’s sexual fantasies in the past few years, earning him the moniker “kilabot ng mga beki” or “gay heartthrob.”

“I like it,” Alex, the son of acclaimed actor Pen Medina, unabashedly admits. “If my being a gay heartthrob catches on, eh di sige, okay. I am comfortable with the way I am, which is why I’m fine with it. Nakaka-flatter s’ya actually.”

Medina relates that he used to receive numerous “indecent proposals” from gay fans on social media. However, such rabid attention eventually declined when he became more visible in movies and television.
