FASHIONISTA: Freeway Juan Luna Maestro Collection

Juan Luna, one of the art heroes of the Philippines who got numerous awards and showed the  western world that "indios" can excel in visual arts along with other Filipino intellectuals like Jose Rizal and Marcelo Del Pilar. And after more than 100 years, his works are still renowned and is a tourist favorite in museums in the country and even in Spain.

Gear Up for Solo’s Online Model Search 2013 Featuring Kikomachine!

Ever dream of becoming a model, but too shy and intimidated to go through all those go-see's? This is your chance! Solo, being a front runner of innovative ideas, invites you to its SOLO ONLINE MODEL SEARCH 2014

The coveted modeling competition started back in 2009 and has been successful ever since. Yearly, close to 100 model poster entries are submitted to Solo's site , which allows viewers to vote for their fave model. The 2012 grand winners, Ganiel Krishnan and Derek Espinosa, both had the chance to play out their modeling dreams with last year’s Online Model Search featuring Tonton Young’s Pupung. Past featured collections include Tony Velasquez’s Kenkoy, Larry Alcala’s Slice of Life. 

Solo's Online Model Search is ingeniously launched with its Pinoy Cartoonist Memorabilia Series as contestants are tasked to wear one item from the featured collection and model it in their photo entries. Past featured collections include Tony Velasquez’s Kenkoy, Larry Alcala’s Slice of Life and Tonton Young’s Pupung. This year, it’s all about Manix Abrera’s Kikomachine. Men and women’s apparel ranging from t-shirts, collared tees and shorts are all dawned with graphic images of Kikomachine’s trademark cartoons and beloved characters.

FASHIONISTA: Freeway x National Artist Collectors' Series Lucio San Pedro for Fall 2013

Freeway is honored to launch the National Artist Collector’s Series for Fall 2013 to celebrate Lucio San Pedro's 100th Birth Centennial. He is the 9th National Artist to be honored by Freeway which includes his kababayan Botong Franciso, fellow musician Levi Celerio, and  F. Sionil Jose to name a few.

In the launch held at The Row Glorietta, his works is remembered with performaces by his grandaugther, the San Perdo Angono Children's Music Choir, and even the host for that night Rachel Alejandro sang his works like "Sa Ugoy ng Duyan" , "Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas", among others. It was also the awarding of the Freeway Art Contest wherein as among the hundreds of entries, two were chosen to be featured for their line which supports young and budding Filipino artists.

We only have a handful of great National Artists that are living as of today, though being awarded with a prestigious honor, most of us still don't even know them. And I am not reffering to a so called artist that the industry also disgust (pun intended). But its good to hear that Freeway and similar brands Solo have infused fashion and the contributions of our National artists.
