"Minions" Grosses P189-M in 5 Days, Biggest Ever Animation Opening in PH‏

On a mission to steal the Queen's crown, the Minions handily snatched the box-office crown as well! Universal Pictures' “Minions” now holds the record of the All-time Biggest Opening Weekend for an Animation Title after grossing a spectacular P189-million in five days (July 8 to 12). Ironically, “Minions” took the crown from its predecessor, 2013's “Despicable Me 2” (P125.7-M).

This was announced today by a spokesman of United International Pictures (UIP) which distributed the film through Columbia Pictures.

The domination began Wednesday July 8 when the spinoff to “Despicable Me” debuted with P22.8-M, breaking the record set by 2011's “Rio” for the Biggest Opening Day Ever for an animated feature.

Jon Hamm, from "Mad Men" to "Minions"

His nuanced portrayal of the high-powered, philandering advertising executive Don Draper on AMC’s award-winning drama series “Mad Men” has firmly established him as one of Hollywood’s most talented and versatile actors.

Now, Golden Globe-winner Jon Hamm displays his comedic side as he provides the voice of Herb Overkill, the mad scientiest and mod husband to Sandra Bullock's Scarlet in Universal Pictures' comedy adventure “Minions.”

Academy Award-winner Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side,” “Gravity”) stars in Universal Pictures’ “Minions” as Scarlet Overkill, the world’s first female super-villain.

Minions Kevin, Stuart and Bob are drawn to Scarlet for her ability to mastermind incredible heists, and they are simultaneously terrified of and smitten by her.  She hires the Minions as her henchmen and charges them with their first mission: to embark on a criminal heist that takes them to London as she attempts to achieve her lifelong dream: becoming the Queen.

Kevin, Stuart & Bob: Get to Know the Adorable "Minions"‏

As the story of Universal Pictures' new adventure comedy “Minions” begins, the Minions are currently masterless in the frigid Antarctic, having grown despondent the more time they spend without a master to serve. Over the centuries, they have had such great intentions for their numerous bosses, but in true Minion fashion, they end up accidentally getting each and every one of their masters killed. When the Minions finally do meet Gru, they’re more relaxed and less insecure. In 1969, however, they’re still in the middle of a steep learning curve.

REEL DEAL: "Minions" Begins, Laughter Ensues in Origin Movie‏

There's no stopping the Minions from having their own movie. And this July, they're taking over the cinemas with the release of the animated comedy adventure “Minions” from Universal Pictures.

After the unprecedented success of both the blockbuster “Despicable Me” and its beloved follow up, the Academy Award®-nominated juggernaut “Despicable Me 2,” there was a global appetite for more stories from the world that was created in Illumination Entertainment’s inaugural series. Audiences everywhere have become transfixed by the Minions and were more than curious to understand where Gru’s loyal and haphazard crew came from, who they were before they met their ultimate master and what other adventures they’d been on since they appeared on our planet.

Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri explains that, in their typical subversively sweet fashion, the Minions got their own way when it came to a prequel story. He says: “We didn’t set out to give the Minions their own movie, the Minions demanded it. After `Despicable Me 2' was finished, we found that our team—which is made up of hundreds of the most talented individuals with whom I have ever had the privilege of working—could not stop themselves from animating these characters.”
