John Boyega Ascends to the Throne as King Ghezo in "The Woman King"

“He walks as though the earth were honored by its burden.”  When John Boyega (Star Wars franchise) read that line for Columbia Pictures’ epic action adventure The Woman King, he knew he would accept the role of King Ghezo.

“It is one of the first lines that [director] Gina Prince-Bythewood quoted to me in her letter about taking the part,” he says. “It thoroughly describes him. And it gives me the opportunity to show a versatility in acting that would be quite exciting for the role.”

"Pacific Rim Uprising" Opens at No.1 with P47.2-M for 2-Day Easter Weekend

Universal Pictures' monsters vs. robots epic adventure Pacific Rim Uprising arrived in Philippine cinemas at No.1 for the Easter Weekend.  The highly awaited sequel scored a robust P47.2-M in box-office gross in two days, March 31 and April 1.

The crowd-pleasing movie is expected to generate further interest and increase sales, echoing its global trend.  So far, Pacific Rim Uprising has made a smash $231.9 million worldwide.

John Boyega (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju.” Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)—who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war.  As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction.

Pacific Rim: Uprising - Did This New Team Fail?

From the first film featuring these mechanical wonders, it was inevitable that there will be sequels lined up. But will the new team for Pacific Rim: Uprising up to the expectations set by the first one?

Set 10 years after the Breach War,  a new generation of fighters and pilots are preparing for any posibility that kaijus would come back. And based on the trailer, they did and they seem to have something more advanced against the new Jeagers; Gypsy Avenger, Saber Athena, Bracer Pheonix, and Guardian Bravo.

Jake Pentecost join Nate Lambet to operate Gypsy Avenger along with young recruits who will trained to pilot the other Jeagers. Surprising the coalition is a rogue jeager and also the appearance of kaijus that sparked another dilemma of destruction especially in cities. I love the new jeagers, specially Saber Athena, yet I still love the original ones. The ten year gap between the two film also made a void between the two films.

Scale and Strength: Kaiju Vs Jaegers in "Pacific Rim Uprising"

In the Pacific Rim universe, the Kaiju are giant monsters that erupted from the depths of the Pacific Ocean. Entering our world through the dimension-spanning portal called the Breach, they are living weapons of mass destruction, bio-engineered to terraform planets. In Universal Pictures’ new epic action-adventure Pacific Rim Uprising, the Kaiju evolve into a deadly and unexpected new species.

The War Awakens John Boyega in "Pacific Rim Uprising"

John Boyega, the breakout star of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, plays the lead role of Jake, wayward son of the legendary war hero Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba), in Universal Pictures' new epic action-adventure Pacific Rim Uprising.

The original Pacific Rim had made a big impression on Boyega, in the days before he broke out as a star. “Seeing Idris Elba in the first film was very important to me. At the time I was involved in acting on a small scale in drama clubs, and in 2013 I saw a print ad while I was on the bus—Idris Elba as Stacker in an all-black Jaeger suit. The image, and what it represented, immediately struck me and motivated me.”

Back to the Breach: "Pacific Rim Uprising" Begins

In the original Pacific Rim, a Breach opened at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, and through it emerged giant Kaiju, monsters engineered by the alien Precursors to move from dimension to dimension terraforming planets—exterminating the indigenous species and taking full territorial control.

These Kaiju unleashed their fury on coastal cities along the Pacific Rim, and proved virtually unstoppable with conventional weapons. Giant robotic warriors called Jaegers—piloted by humans connected by a neural bridge—were engineered to fight back. Jaeger Gipsy Danger successfully closed the Breach by detonating a nuclear bomb, helped by legendary Jaeger Marshal Stacker Pentecost, who gave his life to ensure the success of the operation.

A Powerhouse Cast Rises Up for "Pacific Rim Uprising"

The globe-spanning conflict between otherworldly monsters of mass destruction and the human-piloted super-machines built to vanquish them was only a prelude to the all-out assault on humanity in Universal Pictures' 3D epic adventure Pacific Rim Uprising.

John Boyega (Star Wars series) plays the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju.” Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi, Babel)—who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction.
