This penchant for coming together in the spirit of merrymaking is perhaps best demonstrated in the multitude of colorful annual festivals that happen all over our country, and each fiesta presents its own unique experience. Most provinces celebrate their colorful fiestas during the summer season. Listed below are some of the biggest fiestas that we Filipinos look forward to and are the vacation highlights during May and June:
Pahiyas Festival
Celebrated in thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest, the Pahiyas Festival is held on the 15th of May in Lucban, Quezon. Houses lining the streets of Lucban are finely decorated with agricultural produce, plants and colorful rice wafers called kiping. A friendly spirit of competition fills the air as neighbors try to outdo each other’s decorative creativity, although doors are open and neighbors are all welcome to partake of the feasts laid out inside.
