Mia Wasikowska Back in Wonderland Through "The Looking Glass"

In Disney's new fantasy adventure “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” Mia Wasikowska (“Crimson Peak,” “Alice in Wonderland”) is back as Alice Kingsleigh, the head-strong young woman raised in Victorian London who is a dreamer and a noncomfortist. Now on the cusp of adulthood, she continues to struggle with balancing her inherent curiosity and conforming to other people’s expectations.

“Alice is a great character because she’s very much her own person, and after returning from her travels where she was captain of her own ship has gained more confidence and is filled with a sense of inspiration and excitement,” says Wasikowska.

Adds director James Bobin, “Alice, as written by Lewis Carroll, was very forward-thinking for the time and almost out of place because she’s a strong female character in a very patriarchal, Victorian society…sort of a modern woman in an old-fashioned society.”

REEL DEAL: Alice Through The Looking Glass REVIEW

It was years since this long awaited sequel of live-action adaptation of Alice in Wonderland has finally made the next story of Underland, but indeed worth it as it was able to build a new story. The visually appealing and adventure-laced journey of Alice will open up the imagination of many with Alice Through The Looking Glass.

This retelling of the story of Lewis Carol, brings in more stories and adversaries to the unusual yet colorful world beyond realty. I remember that Alice in Wonderland was one of the earliest movies I reviewed back then. It was way back in 2010, now it has been 6 years since the last movie and it can observed that some of the original cast have aged. But since fantasy would give an interesting turn and texture for the characters, the visuals helped in keeping the vibe of Underland alive.

Since there are new characters introduced such as Time (Sacha Baron Cohen), and it does involve going back and forth time to fix something that is affecting the jolly Mad Hatter which has turned completely not himself lately. This is also one of the last films of Alan Rickman who played Absalom.

Tim Burton Produces, James Bobin Directs "Alice Through the Looking Glass"‏

James Bobin (“The Muppets”) directs Disney's “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” bringing his own unique vision to the spectacular world Tim Burton created on screen with 2010's “Alice in Wonderland” which became a global blockbuster (to the tune of over $1-billion gross) and cultural sensation.

For years the producers of “Alice in Wonderland” talked of a second film. Explains producer Suzanne Todd, “We had discussions about what would be interesting thematically and what we wanted the story to convey, but we just weren’t there yet.”

Screenwriter Linda Woolverton (“Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King”) had been working on a follow-up to her “Alice in Wonderland” screenplay, and soon delivered a clever script which continued the adventures of Lewis Carroll’s vibrant characters and infused them with imagination and heart. Todd shares, “Linda had written a new story told through the prism of the book about the characters and what had happened since we last saw them, as well as what happened to them in the past, and everyone loved it.”

Mia Wasikowska, from "Alice in Wonderland" to "Crimson Peak"‏

Universal Pictures' new gothic thriller “Crimson Peak” is confidently carried by the inquisitive naïveté of its protagonist Edith Cushing, played by Polish-Australian actress Mia Wasikowska, whose breakthrough role came in Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland.”

An aspiring author, Edith Cushing is haunted by the ghosts of her past and cursed by the visions of her future. Losing her mother to black cholera when she was only 10 had a profound effect on Edith’s upbringing. She matured to the task of taking care of her aging father, all the while seeking the liberties of forward-thinking women in late Victorian society. Haunted by the memory of a warning heeded by her mother’s ghost, Edith developed a fascination for the supernatural and was set on publishing a novel of gothic fiction when her own life became a case for the story.

REEL DEAL: Stoker REVIEW

An movie is not effective if it will not leave you moved or disturbed even after the film. This is what I have felt (and until now) with STOKER, starring Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode, and Nicole Kidman.

Not like the usual thriller movies which focuses more on the killing blood and gore, it disturbs one to the core with the mystery and imagery shown in the film. As a grieving family Stoker is joined by a mysterious uncle Charlie (Goode), things gets more clearer and complicated at the same time.

It does not also keep the cryptic clues to deep for viewers to know what is going on, but it leaves the audience in a stalemate on what will happen with all of the story and the characters, how they would react, or what will happen eventually.
