James Cameron’s “Avatar” heads back to Philippine cinemas for a limited run

Relive the global phenomenon that changed the movie-going experience as James Cameron’s Academy Award®-winning epic adventure “Avatar” returns to Philippine cinemas.  Moviegoers will experience the film like never before as a remastered version in 2D and 3D formats will be available for a limited run.

First released in 2009, “Avatar” tells the story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet called ‘Pandora’ filled with exotic life forms in the year 2154. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the Na’vi. He meets and falls in love with the Na’vi Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) and opens his eyes to the destruction the humans are wreaking on Pandora, and sides with the Na’vi to protect their world from human hands.

The film successfully transports its audience–then and now–from the darkened theaters to Pandora itself through the use of groundbreaking and innovative motion capture techniques and visual effects that brought the blue world and Na’vi to life in 3D. It’s a truly immersive experience without comparison.

"Gravity," "Avatar" Artists Tap Latest Tech for Disney's "The Jungle Book"‏

Filmmakers explored the best way to immerse audiences in the world they’d imagined in their new version of Walt Disney Pictures' reimagined “The Jungle Book.”

Says director Jon Favreau, “We asked ourselves, ‘How can we create a world? How can we use this technology, these storytelling tools to their fullest potential?’ Ideally, we wanted the audience to forget that it’s technology—they’ll just get transported.”

Filmmakers assembled a team of experts with movies like “Life of Pi,” “Gravity” and “Avatar” under their belts. Visual effects supervisor Rob Legato boarded the project very early on to design a workflow, a system and VFX pipeline, employing the very latest iteration of movie magic, which would allow his director the freedom to push the limits of what’s possible in filmmaking. “It’s a photo-real film grounded in the real world,” says Legato. “There's something very interesting about that.”

Additionally, to help bring his growing AVATAR universe to life and to expedite the process, Cameron has hired screenwriters Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planets of the Apes), and Shane Salerno (Savages, Salinger) to collaborate with him on the screenplays for the three films.

Avatar Special Edition shows August!

AVATAR: SPECIAL EDITION LIMITED THEATRICAL ENGAGEMENT, BEGINS AUGUST 27
EXCLUSIVELY IN DIGITAL 3D AND IMAX® 3D IN THE PHILS.

Los Angeles – 20th Century Fox and James Cameron will re-release “AVATAR: SPECIAL EDITION” starting August 27, in a limited engagement and exclusively in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D cinemas.
This version of Cameron’s history-making and groundbreaking epic will include more than eight minutes of new footage. Since – and largely as of result of -- AVATAR’s release last December, the number of available digital 3D screens has exploded, and moviegoers who missed experiencing the film in 3D will now have that opportunity.
"Audiences repeatedly told me they wanted more of Pandora, and wished they could have stayed there longer. So we’re making that possible. AVATAR: SPECIAL EDITION will be exclusively in 3D, and will have eight minutes of never before seen footage, including new creatures and action scenes. Whether you already love the movie, or you've never seen it, with this Special Edition, you'll be seeing it like never before," comments James Cameron.
Likewise, Fox Filmed Entertainment chairmen and CEOs, Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman concur that “AVATAR: SPECIAL EDITION is especially gratifying, because not only has AVATAR  become one of the most beloved films in history, but after its initial theatrical release, we have been inundated with requests to re-release the film in theaters in 3D.  Equally important, we’re thrilled that Jim Cameron is able to give audiences even more of what they loved about AVATAR.”
The Oscar® and Golden Globe® winning epic is the highest grossing film of all time, taking in over $2.7 billion in worldwide box office.  It is also the top-selling Blu-ray disc of all time.  Director James Cameron takes audiences to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization.  AVATAR delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappear into the emotion of the characters and the epic nature of the story.
Return to Pandora and re-experience Cameron’s history-making epic, with more than eight minutes of never before seen footage on August 27 (Friday).  Check out 20th Century Fox (Philippines) Facebook page for the latest news and contests.
