Globe warns vs online offers for SIM registration assistance

Register for free in a few easy steps on Globe’s official portal

Globe cautions its customers against offers of SIM registration assistance online and advises them not to share personal information to protect their data security and privacy.

There are already reports of individuals taking advantage of the SIM registration requirement. They offer their services through social media either for free or for a fee and request the name, photo, valid ID, birthday, cell phone number, and address of SIM users.

Such personal information, when in the wrong hands, may be used to impersonate their owners, access their accounts, steal money or other fraudulent activities. Identity thieves may also open accounts in another person’s name, run up debt, or commit crimes, causing damaged reputation and financial problems.

Customers have until April 26, 2023 to register

Globe, the leader in Mobile, launched its SIM Registration portal new.globe.com.ph/simreg early on December 27, Tuesday, in compliance with the law but had to make the site temporarily inaccessible to ensure a better registration experience for customers.

Several customers were able to access the site and register between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. but the portal temporarily went offline as the site is being optimized. Globe aims to have the online platform back up within the day.

“We would like to thank our customers for going in to register early. Technical teams are working double time so the online platform can go live before the day ends. Rest assured that we are optimizing our systems to give you a better registration experience. We’d also like to remind our customers that there is enough time to register,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications of the Globe Group.

Globe warns against criminals using SIM registration law to scam public

Leading digital solutions platform Globe warns the public against unscrupulous groups and individuals who are taking advantage of the SIM registration law to scam people.

“We have received reports that there are groups and individuals taking advantage of the new law by sending misleading text messages to unsuspecting mobile phone users.  We would like to remind our customers to ignore these messages and report them to our Stop Spam website,” said  Anton Bonifacio, Globe Chief Information Security Officer.

Bonifacio said text messages informing users that their SIMs have been deactivated are just a ploy to get their personal information and hard-earned money. The SIM Registration law has yet to take full effect as its implementing rules and regulations are still being finalized.

Globe, Curvalux bag WBA award for bridging connectivity gap in hard-to-reach areas

Globe and Curvalux won the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) Best Wi-Fi for Social Impact award for helping bring high-speed internet connectivity in hard-to-reach areas, especially in communities where electricity is unreliable or non-existent
.

The award recognizes and celebrates innovative Wi-Fi network-based services that have been deployed on a trial or commercial basis in at least one country or market. Globe’s win was based on its scores in technical and business innovations, user-experience enhancement, and scale of market impact.

According to The World Bank’s Philippine Digital Economy Report 2020, around 57% households in the country do not have access to the internet. In the report, it mentioned that the digital divide is driven by the limited infrastructure and geographical challenges as an archipelago.

Globe, DENR, UNIDO and partners join hands for new recycling facility in Malabon City

The UN Environment Programme in its 2019 press statement said that more than 50 million tonnes of electronic waste (e-waste) are generated each year and less than 20% is formally recycled.  About 80% either end up in landfills or being informally recycled – much of it by hand – in developing countries, exposing workers to hazardous and carcinogenic substances such as mercury, lead and cadmium.

To help address concerns over informal e-waste processing and its associated risks to the people and environment, Globe joined a multi-stakeholder partnership that will put up the country’s second community e-waste Treatment, Storage, and Disposal (TSD) facility in Barangay Dampalit, Malabon City. The facility is expected to be inaugurated by late November 2021 and will start operations immediately after necessary technical training is completed.

Barangay Dampalit was selected as the new TSD site and the local e-waste pickers, led by their association -- Samahan ng Magbabaklas, will be trained on proper handling and dismantling of e-waste to discourage unconventional and harmful means of recycling.

Globe, DepEd, Sen. Villanueva make digital learning more accessible with GoLearn
