Relive the global phenomenon that changed the movie-going experience as James Cameron’s Academy Award®-winning epic adventure “Avatar” returns to Philippine cinemas.  Moviegoers will experience the film like never before as a remastered version in 2D and 3D formats will be available for a limited run.

First released in 2009, “Avatar” tells the story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet called ‘Pandora’ filled with exotic life forms in the year 2154. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the Na’vi. He meets and falls in love with the Na’vi Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) and opens his eyes to the destruction the humans are wreaking on Pandora, and sides with the Na’vi to protect their world from human hands.

The film successfully transports its audience–then and now–from the darkened theaters to Pandora itself through the use of groundbreaking and innovative motion capture techniques and visual effects that brought the blue world and Na’vi to life in 3D. Awesome for all: Up your A-Game and be all kinds of awesome with the latest Samsung Galaxy A Series smartphones

Being “awesome” has different meanings to different people and can be interpreted in many ways. For some, this could mean being able to seize opportunities, maximize one’s time and balance multiple responsibilities. Being awesome may also mean engaging in one’s passions, from baking, to playing mobile games, or even making art. For others, being awesome can be about the seemingly small wins that matter, like ticking off all the items in one’s to-do list, or staying within budget.

There truly is no singular definition of being awesome; it’s how one chooses to live their life the best way they can. And this is why Samsung recently unveiled their latest Galaxy A Series smartphones: Galaxy A13 5G, Galaxy A23 5G, and Galaxy A04s, to enable today’s youth to achieve their awesome, whatever that may be.

Director Says "Smile" a Horror Film That Feels Like a Panic Attack

Some horror movies aim to subtly spook audiences. Others try to make viewers squirm in their seats. But filmmaker Parker Finn had a far more ambitious goal in mind when he set out to write and direct his debut feature, Smile. “I wanted to make a movie that felt like a sustained panic attack from start to finish,” he says.

Watch the film’s featurette at https://youtu.be/-U68rvBEev4

The chilling story of a clinical psychiatrist who begins experiencing terrifying and inexplicable occurrences following a bizarre encounter with a patient, Smile was inspired by a short film Finn made in 2020. Titled Laura Hasn’t Slept, the short starred Caitlin Stasey — who also has a memorable role in Smile — and won a Special Jury Award in SXSW®’s Midnight Short category. The 11-minute film generated intense industry buzz around Finn, who successfully pitched a feature version to Paramount Pictures and producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey’s Temple Hill Entertainment.

For "Smile" Star Sosie Bacon, Horror Genre Runs in the Family

Cinematic terror is something of a family business for Sosie Bacon, the lead in Paramount Pictures’ terrifying horror thriller Smile. Her father, Kevin Bacon, has appeared in several iconic genre films, including Stir of Echoes, Flatliners, and the all-time classic Friday the 13th. “My dad is  a big scary movie fan, so I gained an appreciation for them early on, and I still like them a lot,” says the actress.

Any Name’s Okay navigates the growing pains of adulthood in new EP, Leaving Home

Its focus track “Takbo” tackles themes of running away from burnout and hustle culture

Filipino alternative pop band Any Names Okay has finally dropped their much-awaited sophomore EP, Leaving Home via Sony Music Philippines. Taking a huge step forward in terms of musical and creative direction, the 6-track release digs deeper into the journey of navigating adulthood and embracing the uncertainty that comes with the process.

“As a band, we’re maturing in our songwriting and the way that we operate as creatives,” shares the five-piece outfit. “We want to grow old with our listeners—which can be scary, but very exciting. A lot of those fears and joys can be found in this collection of songs.”

Lyrically, the band’s new EP, Leaving Home expands on introspective and existential themes—sometimes rendered in emotionally blunt details, but most of the time, exhibiting some of the growing pains that one has to go through in their transitional period towards maturity. The promising newcomer explains, “We’ve all been through the wringer the last few years, and this was a much-needed emotional release for everyone. We believe that a thorough listen of the EP, however, still shows that same heart, energy, and sincerity that people have come to know of us.”

Styles treated “Dunkirk” as a learning experience, not a stepping stone to Hollywood. Five years later, he returns to acting, ready to take the lead as the ambitious husband Jack Chambers in New Line Cinema’s provocative thriller, “Don’t Worry Darling.”

A study by University of Arkansas professors Di Fang, Michael Thomsen and Rodolfo Nayga Jr., published by BMC Public Health in March 2021, found that food insecurity caused by the pandemic was also associated with increased risk of mental illness.

It determined that “food insecurity is associated with a 257% higher risk of anxiety and a 253% higher risk of depression.” The study then recommended that public health measures should focus on getting direct subsidies of food purchases to poor families, especially families with children.

PETA marks theater comeback with Batang Rizal

After Philippine Educational Theater Association’s (PETA) big digital breakthrough during the pandemic: a string of successful online show streams and virtual workshops, the pioneering Filipino theater company is making a big theater comeback for its 55th Theater Season!

The return to the theater features no less than a PETA classic, Christine Bellen’s Batang Rizal! First to launch online via streaming from October 14-16, the well-loved musical will be the first show to open PETA’s theater stage in November.

Co-written, directed for stage, and choreographed by Dudz Teraña, with musical direction, arrangement, and composition by Vincent de Jesus, Batang Rizal is a remarkable piece because of its ability to resonate with audiences across generations. Its power rests in its simplicity and relatability, while carrying a deep challenge for audiences to become everyday heroes.

Even after a decade and a half, the magic of Batang Rizal has not wavered. PETA artistic director, and Batang Rizal video director, Maribel Legarda, says that one of the most powerful aspects of the show is “how Rizal’s story is told not through the eyes of an adult but that of a child’s.”

Learn the A-Z to stop cyberbullying; go to www.makeitsafe.ph

A is for apple?  Think again.  In cyber lingo, as these parents have experienced, the alphabet takes a whole new meaning, but not necessarily all good.

These cyber expressions could range from AMP, a shorter version of a Filipino cuss word, to other derogatory terms.

Or you might have heard someone say “Go KYS” or “Reincarnate.”  These are simple but disturbing terms with the harmful intention of telling a person to “kill yourself.”

And sometimes, cyberbullying does not even use letters or words.  Instead, people resort to emojis such as a pig face or snout to shame a person for being fat, or a clown to denote stupidity.

Toyota Starts Demonstration Project of Data-Measuring Vehicle Advertising Business for Company Vehicles in the Philippines

On the 17th day of May, 2022, Toyota Mobility Solutions Philippines Corporation (TMSPH) launched a demonstration project of a mobility service to optimize advertising revenues by specifically measuring the effectiveness of wrap advertisement of fleet vehicles based on vehicle location information using the GPS data sent from mobile APP.

This demonstration project will be led by TMSPH, with the cooperation of Flare Inc. (Flare), a company that develops and operates mobility-related businesses such as wrap advertising, Toyota Financial Services Philippines Corporation (TFSPH), Toyota’s automobile sales finance company, and Toyota Daihatsu Engineering & Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TDEM), Toyota’s regional office in Asia. The project will be promoted using ten fleet vehicles throughout Metro Manila, Laguna, and other bordering cities for six months. During the demonstration, TMSPH will serve as an advertiser by promoting TFSPH’s KINTO One full-service lease product.

Unlike outdoor advertising in fixed locations, such as billboards, the demonstration project enables us to collect a broad range of data and knowledge relating to advertising effectiveness by using cars that move in wide areas for advertising. We can also measure advertising effectiveness more accurately by using and checking GPS-based vehicle position information sent from drivers' smartphones and real-time traffic data collected at each location, instead of using data obtained from a periodic traffic census.

Taylor Swift Composes Song "Carolina" for "Where the Crawdads Sing"

Watch the song’s lyric video at https://youtu.be/egxyRSb_XtI

“About a year and half ago I wrote a song about an incredible story, the story of a girl who always lived on the outside, looking in. Figuratively and literally,” said Taylor Swift. “The juxtaposition of her loneliness and independence. Her longing and her stillness. Her curiosity and fear, all tangled up. Her persisting gentleness… and the world’s betrayal of it.”
