Gerry's Ups The Ante On Dining With New Look

Filipino favorite Gerry’s Grill has upped the ante in casual dining not only because of its rapid expansion but how it’s reinventing the experience, donning two new looks that are worth dining for.

Just last week, the popular restaurant opened back-to-back outlets at the Ground floor, Mega Strip B of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong and Aseana along Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City with an entirely different ambiance guests would surely enjoy – and talk about.

“We have set a new standard to ensure that we provide customers not only the best Filipino dishes but fast, efficient service and a cozy ambiance. We want diners to have that experience of being in a restaurant where they will feel relaxed, and comfortable,” said Francis Villaluz, Gerry’s Senior Marketing Manager.

"It’s important that guests feast not only with what they eat but with what they see inside the restaurant," he added. That’s the principle behind the two restaurants' new looks.

At Gerry’s Megamall, the main wall of the dining area is decked with foliage, which is installed with a fully automated water system to nourish them.  “The lighting is calibrated in a way that it has the same effect as sunlight. Nothing could be more refreshing,” explains Villaluz.

Meantime, the 250-seater Aseana branch sports an updated version of Old Manila surrounded by balconies, as well as, huge windows of varying designs. Chairs are a mix and match design which is a first for us  “We want guests to feel that they are enjoying their favorite Gerry’s dishes with family and friends in a huge patio,” Gerry’s senior marketing chief said.

“Remember the old joke about a guest wanting to take out “ambiance” so that they can slash the total bill? We're the same Gerry’s where you can enjoy your favorite comfort food – Kare Kare, Crispy Pata, Grilled Pusit, and many others. We’ve put a premium on ambiance but our prices remain the same. We are very affordable,” explains Villaluz.

Gerry’s currently has 71 branches nationwide. It has two branches in the US and Singapore, and soon to be two in Qatar as well.

Gerry’s Group of Companies has expanded its brand concepts – Gerry’s Plus, Ramen Sora, Sweet Chili, and Kusina ng Gerry’s. Yakitori Binchotan is set to be launched next month in Cebu.

REEL DEAL: "Insidious: Chapter 3" Keeps Horror Tradition Alive‏

The description “very dark and weird” has been part and parcel of the enduring shivery appeal of the Insidious movies, evoking dread and terror – sometimes explainable for the characters, sometimes not. This could not have been truer in the new sequel, “Insidious: Chapter 3” from Columbia Pictures.

Teen cast member Stefanie Scott remarks, “It’s the fear of the unknown that works on you – like when you hear a noise and think, ‘Huh, that’s nothing.’ But in these movies, it is...something.”

Director and screenwriter Leigh Whannell adds, “It’s your own imagination that can start freaking you out right away; a floorboard creaking can set you off. In the Insidious movies, we build on that and tease the audience a little.

REEL DEAL: Director Marjane Satrapi Elevates "THE VOICES" With Highest of Notes

Acclaimed graphic novelist Marjane Satrapi directs Ryan Reynolds in what critics are saying to be the best performance yet of his career in “The Voices” that also stars Gemma Arterton and Anna Kendrick.

The story opens on Jerry’s (Reynolds) early days at his new job. Mesmerized by the ballet-like trajectory of pink forklifts amongst the bustling computer-controlled assembly lines at Milton Fixture and Faucet’s modern factory, he wears pink overalls and heavy gloves, and is proud of his work.  At home, he is not the brightly clad guy as he is perceived to be and talks to his pets – a dog and a cat that Jerry believes are talking back to him.

REEL DEAL: Horror Film “THE GALLOWS” Drops Main Trailer

The film stars Cassidy Gifford (“God’s Not Dead”), Ryan Shoos (“As Night Comes”), Reese Mishler (the web series “Youthful Daze”) and Pfeifer Brown under the direction of Chris Lofing and Travis Cluff, who wrote the screenplay.

Jason Blum (“Ouija,” the “Paranormal Activity” “Insidious” and “Sinister” franchises) produces with Guymon Casady (TV’s “Game of Thrones,” “The Expendables” franchise), Dean Schnider (“Hachi: A Dog’s Tale”), Benjamin Forkner (“The Killing Room”), Lofing and Cluff. Dave Neustadter, Walter Hamada and Couper Samuelson are the executive producers.

Tennis All-Stars Makes its Way to Mall of Asia Arena in December 2015

All roads lead to Mall of Asia Arena on December 6-8, 2015 for the second leg of the international tennis event that brings current, legends and rising stars like Nadal, Williams, Tsonga, Ivanovic, Monfils, Hantuchova, Berdych, Kyrgios and over 30 other tennis superstars to the country.

Following a very successful 3-day tennis tournament with over 30,000 fans at the Mall of Asia Arena last November 2014, the International Premiere Tennis League (IPTL) --Dubbed as the tennis all-stars--  will be bringing top-ranked and multi-awarded tennis players to the Philippines for its second season. “The Philippines will be another exciting leg of the IPTL’s tour,” says IPTL’s VP of Operations, Abhishek Ponia. The Philippines had a great record in audience attendance last year, proving that the Philippines is a tennis-enthused country and fitting host for the IPTL. Now bigger and better, the IPTL has added a fifth team to its roster, promising that a wider universe of world-renown tennis athletes will arrive in the country to play against the Philippine Mavericks. Also making their way to the Philippines are tennis players: Ivanisevic, Moya, Pliskova, Bopanna, Santoro, Mladenovic, and Nestor.

TOYCON Philippines 2015: The Country’s biggest pop-culture event celebrates its 14th Year with Battlefields of Play

Those of us who grew up in the pre-social media era or even the pre-electronic gaming age remember a time when “Play” was associated with the outdoors.  We fondly remember halcyon days of setting up toy soldiers in the hilly terrain of our own backyard or lining up our Star Wars action figures to go into battle with our He-Man toys in the wonderland of our childhood bedroom.

Those were the days, when our imagination knew no limits and the fantasy characters of comics, cartoons and movies were our genuine playmates; ready to defend and protect us, by the Power of Greyskull or by the all-encompassing Force, forging into battle with the evil hordes of Cobra, the Legion of Doom or armies of Decepticons.

We never knew it, but our childhood was fraught with glory in our Battlefields of Play.  And this is what we celebrate once again, as a clarion call sounds to dust off our toys and wage war once again with glee and joy in our hearts.
