MTL SAYS NO 2 MINING IN PALAWAN!

Manual to Lyf is always vocal in voicing concerns about our natural resources that for years are being exploited by companies who are only after the profit. And for what we have left we should keep them safe from exploiters. Palawan, known as the last frontier of the Philippines, holds a lot of natural flora and fauna that cannot be found anywhere in the country. And we also campaigned for the Puerto Princessa Underground River to be the 7 new natural wonders of the world. But at Brooke's Point, there is a threat to do open-mining in this area. Many of the original residents are worried and oppose this action of MarcoAsia, the big mining firm involved in the open mine project allegedly brought thirty “fake” indigenous people. These so-called tribal chieftains showed support on MacroAsia despite opposite views from the majority of indigenous people from Brooke’s Point.

This is why ABS CBN foundation and other NGO founded the NO TO MINING IN PALAWAN  to raise signatures and awareness about the current issue and will do all it can to stop this threat from destroying the natural beauty of Palawan especially Brooke's Point and Mount Mantalinghagan.

Mount Mantalingahan, one of Palawan’s 33 watersheds, is located within Brooke’s Point. Mount Mantalingahan, with its lush forest and pristine rivers, is in threat of mining activities once Certificate of Precondition is granted to MacroAsia.

“Mining is not the way to go for Palawan. In this age of climate change and global warming any economic development that does not recognize and revere the web of life should be thrown in the dustbin.” - Gina Lopez, Managing Director of ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc.

Palawan has 40 percent of our country’s remaining mangrove areas, 30 percent of our coral reefs, at least 17 Key Biodiversity Areas, two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and eight declared protected areas.

According to official information, between June 15 and 17, the NCIP will convene an en banc meeting to decide on the issuance or non- issuance of the Certificate of Precondition to MacroAsia Corporation. The eventual endorsement of this important document will allow MacroAsia to proceed towards the next step: getting the (Strategic Environmental Plan) SEP clearance from the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD).

Manual to Lyf is inviting  everyone to please support the ten million signature campaign to Stop Mining in Palawan . Log in to www.no2mininginpalawan.com and help preserve our natural resources and the future of Palawan.
