JUAN MINUTE: 7 Things you’ll love about Dingdong Dantes

He has an “international” appeal.

With his washboard abs and his dashing looks, women not only in the Philippines but also all over the world find him very sexy. In fact, in 2008, the actor landed in E! Magazine’s 25 Sexiest Men in the World and he’s the only Filipino in that list, which by the way also includes David Beckham. Dingdong ranked 3rd.

He exudes a positive vibe.

Ask the people close to Dingdong and those who have worked with him in the past and they will utter only kind words about the matinee idol.  “Dingdong is such a kind-hearted person on and off-camera. He treats everyone on the set equally. He doesn’t discriminate. He is also very approachable and accommodating,” says a staff member of one of Dingdong’s previous TV series. “The actor is always there to inspire everyone around him despite any situation,” the staff member added.  In a TV interview, Dingdong’s girlfriend, actress Marian Rivera, shared how much she has changed for the better because of Dingdong. “Tinuruan niya ako maging patient, bawal ang maging negative,” she said.

He’s a “buffet” – so much more than what one could possibly consume.

More than just a great actor, Dingdong is a versatile artist: he is also a fine TV host and a very graceful dancer. In fact, his being a dancer paved the way for stardom.  Did we mention that he is also a movie producer? He co-produced the movie “Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles,” where he portrayed the lead character alongside multi-awarded actress Lovi Poe. Sure, he can do it all.  After all, he’s THE Dingdong Dantes.

Dingdong Dantes has won various awards such as the Outstanding Original Reality/Competition Program Host during the 2012 Golden Screen Awards for Television in 2013, Outstanding Original Reality Program Host for Protégé at the 2013 Golden Screen TV, and Best Actor Award for “Segunda Mano” in 2012.

He is a man for others.

In a recent interview, Dingdong admitted that he is a little bit “kuripot” when it comes to his own needs but magnanimous when it comes to the needs of his fellow. “Talagang todohan, todohan talaga,” said Dingdong of his philanthropic efforts. The actor is the founding chair of “Yes Pinoy Foundation” and the spearhead of “Project Aklat.” Dingdong’s priority is to address the need for education of thousands of under privileged children via scholarship grants. Despite his hectic schedule, he finds time to personally attend activities of his foundation.

He’s not fastidious when it comes to food.

Dingdong may be attractively sweet but he actually loves sour food. He indulges his self in anything that could transform his face from angelic into a “mukhasim (mukha + asim).” And his favorites: kamias and green mangoes with rock salt! These keep him energized during tapings.

He has a sixth sense: A sense of humor.

Dingdong Dantes is a serious actor and when on the set, his piercing stare usually hides his funny side.  Once in a while, however, Dingdong’s talent of tickling women’s funny bones becomes too strong to conceal. Once when he was asked how long he and Marian have been dating, he answered, “Months? Ang binibilang ko kasi seconds eh. Kaso, kukulangin tayo sa papel pag sinulat natin yun!” Boom!

He ages like wine.

Like wine, Dingdong Dantes only gets better as he ages. Dingdong remains one of the most sought out actors in the showbiz industry. With his numerous accolades in the industry, we can only wait for what other great things he will accomplish in the years to come.

Dingdong Dantes is starring in the upcoming primetime series on GMA, “Genesis.”  Watch out for this sci-fi/drama series coming this October, replacing "My Husband's Lover" on GMA Telebabad.
