The Day After Valentine's - JC-Bella Magic Once Again?

From the success of last year's PPP entry "100 Tula Para Kay Stella", comes another JC Santos and Bella Padilla movie team up directed by Jason Paul Laxamana, The Day After Valentine's is an encore movie that hopes to be another blockbuster hit from the two.

Though with a new set of characters and story, many are rooting for the chemistry of JC and Bella which has a charm with their unconventional love stories. This one starts with the common serendipity meet up which eventually leads to friendship. Kai (JC) is still emotionally attached to his last relationship which also drives him to hurt himself. Lani (Bella) discovers his secret and offers to help him on the road to healing.

Though they do make a good pair, the story comes a little flat with not enough factors to build up the character connection. Despite many people does not like the damatic angst characters of Lani and Kai.

The movie also became like a tourist trip to Hawaii to establish the Hawaiian origins of Kai which includes his healing process. I guess it was not necessary because it was just added flair for the film. Also I had issues with the camera shots and sounds which shifts weirdly even with the same scene.

The Day After Valentine's  stars JC Santos, Bella Padilla, Regine Tolentino, Jay Castillo, Stacey Gabriel, Phoebe Villamor, Rayton Lamay, Merwyn Abel, Aries Go .  Written and directed by Jun Robles Lana, showing on August 15.

Deliberation time kids!

Show summary: 100 Baybayin Para Kay Kai

Quotable quote: "PAGHILOM"

Technical Effects: 3 out of 5 stars ()

Plot: 3 out of 5 stars (With a lot of possibilities, it has this charm similar to Sid and Aya which I consider as one of the best Filipino love story movies this year.)

Acting and Actors: 4 out of 5 stars (With depression linked to the story, the characters displayed their dark aura however it was eclipsed by poor sound, shaky shots, and imagination sequences that were not necessary.)

Pros:     Hugot quotes, Hawaii spots, Baybayin integration
Cons: Music, cinematography,

Music and Soundtracks:  4 out for 5 stars (Scoring was so weird, but I love the soundtrack which goes well with the scenes.)

Overall: Rating 3.6 out of 5 stars (The concept and story was good but I was quite disturbed with the cinematography and sound quality.)
