GOYO - Ang Batang Heneral Continues The Revolutionary Trilogy

After the underdog success of Heneral Luna, the "Artikulo Uno" trilogy continues with Gregorio Del Pilar now on the spotlight. GOYO Ang Batang Heneral is directed by Jerold Tarog, and Paulo Avelino plays the role again.

With Heneral Luna comes a fiesty and strong film about the general's life, Goyo is more of the opposite with a more milder yet womanizing  personality which might come as a shock for those expecting a hot-headed  protagonist.

The film also brings in the cast of Heneral Luna like Apolinario Mabini (Epy Quizon), Emilio Aguinaldo (Mon Confiado), Manuel Quezon (Benjamin Alves, and Joven (Aaron Villaflor). Though I would also highly recommend watching the filler short "Angelito" which was part of "I'm Drunk, I Love You." but is also available for viewing in their facebook page.

I have to say that this has a reflective effect on the viewers which uses certain situations to be relatable to today's society like idolatry of personalities, fake patriotism, and poor support.  Goyo showed the struggle of the government versus the American forces tracking them down.  Also stay for some end credit scenes that will also come as a surprise for the future epic conclusion.

GOYO - Ang Batang Heneral  stars Paulo Avelino, Carlo Aquino, Mon Confiado, Epy Quizon, Gwen Zamora, Empress Schuck, Alvin Anson, Rafa Siguion-Reyna, Benjamin Alves, Arthur Acuña and Aaron Villaflor, it will be showing in theaters September 5 in the Philippines.

Deliberation time kids!

Show summary: The dashing and devastating last days of Goyo.

Quotable quote: "Tayo ay sundalo puno ng pag-ibig hindi ng galit (We are soldiers filled with love not hate)"

Technical Effects: 4 out of 5 stars (With improvements from the Heneral Luna, they have made significant details and historical accuracy)

Plot: 4 out of 5 stars (Though I know some facts, the storytelling was quite different and even with the artistic add on characters were a win for this film)

Acting and Actors: 4 out of 5 stars (Art Acuña stood as the most outstanding in this ensemble)

Pros:  Accuracy, Social relevance, tactics, Tirad Pass war scene
Cons: Some long shots which are quite dragging

Music and Soundtracks:  5 out for 5 stars (With musical score Jerold Tarog and backed with a great soundtrack, this won my musical heart)

Overall: Rating 4.5 out of 5 stars (An ambitious film made into reality, history making its mark again, may we also learn the mistakes of the past and never do it again.)
