SHAZAM! - A Marvelous And Fun Hero in the DC Universe

DC is getting on the right track with their latest movies like Aquaman which has reached more than $1 Billion in the box office. Now comes another DC character which is already getting ground with his humor and charm as seen in the trailers. Shazam! is potentially powerful as Aquaman in terms of anticipation and might do well in the cinemas as well.

Starring Zachary Levi, this champion also known as Captain Marvel of the DC universe comes in a great time where DC is now embracing their fun and adventurous plots rather than the deep and dark ones of the past. Given that the character in the comics also has a quirky side and an alter ego of a kid named Billy Batson played by Asher Angel.

It was a fun and interesting world to deal with as Shazam is powered by magic from mystics of the ancient world. His foes would also come from the same realm of mysticism which opens a new wave of possible heroes and villains that will also become part of the DC Universe. What we like most about the film is the development of the characters although comical at first, but eventually reveals as very pivotal for the whole story.

SHAZAM! just opened a new world and we are pretty excited of what's to come from this quirky superhero and his family.  It is indeed an entertaining film that feels good from start to finish, perfect to watch with friends and family. Also watch out and don't leave the cinema yet as there will be 2 credits (mid and end) scenes!

Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Djimon Hounsou. Directed by David F. Sandberg, showing in cinemas April 3, 2019.

Deliberation time kids!

Film summary: Superhero Chuck in Tights

Quotable quote: “Holy Molly!" - Shazam

Technical Effects: 4 out of 5 stars (The effects were good but some may compare the quality to some other films but nevertheless brings the story to great fun and excitement.)

Plot: 3 out of 5 stars (At first I thought it may follow a pattern but they put some deviation and  the twist was really exciting to everyone.)

Acting and Actors: 5 out of 5 stars (Zachary Levi was perfect for the role, now please make more Shazam movies!)

Pros:  Shazam humor, the Foster family, DC continuity, cameos, music
Cons: Some plot holes, and some inconsistencies

Music and Soundtracks:  4 out for 5 stars (Music by Benjamin Wallfisch, who worked with "It" and "Blade Runner 2049" has balanced power, thrill, and excitement that complements the scenes.)

Overall: Rating 4.7 out of 5 stars (The humor and lighter theme of this DC film made it very entertaining and lifted the DC Cinematic universe to enjoyable movies again, hope they keep on this track for future films.)
