Scan-To-Pay With GCash at 7-Eleven

Cashless transactions are now growing this year with more people opting to pay using their phones than with cash. And recently GCash found a new partner with this type of payment with the largest convenience store chain in the country.

7-Eleven is known all over the country as the 24 hour store that many would go for a quick bites, supplies, charging, loading, and sometimes delivery and gadgets. For the longest time, the only connection between the two is the Cash-in option to load on their e-wallets. 


Just like the partner businesses of GCash, 7-Eleven now lets their customers pay for their purchases using the Scan-to-Pay (STP) option via Barcode feature in the GCash app. This gives customers more options to play along with cash, and their own Cliqq Pay. 

Scan-to-Pay (STP) is similar to QR code function but acts differently and sometimes more quicker. The cashier can now just scan the bar code on the GCash app and it automatically link and process it using the account. No need to enter the amount and will be processed automatically.

“This partnership is anchored on the shared goal of enabling more Filipinos to participate in the digital financial landscape. By allowing 7-Eleven stores to accept GCash STP via Barcode payments, we are bringing the vision of building a cashless Philippines,” GCash President Anthony Thomas said.

Supporting BSP cashless vision 

The partnership between the fintech leader and the convenience store chain pioneer also supports the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ (BSP) goal of creating a more cashless Philippines starting this year by migrating 20 percent of the total transaction to non-cash means such as digital payments. 

Already, based on a study conducted by the Better Than Cash Alliance, a United Nations-backed organization, the Philippines is close to reaching this target. According to the study, digital transactions now account for 20 percent of the total value of transactions, while 10-percent in terms of volume in 2018.

With more 7-Eleven stores opening and GCash expanding with more users in the Philippines, many people will now try cashless transactions and keep using GCash in their everyday lives. There will also be less hassle for change and delays on the payment, and this also comes with more benefit rather than the usual traditional payment method.

STP via Barcode is now available in more than 2,800 7-Eleven stores in the Philippines. It is also available in majority of Puregold outlets and Starbucks stores nationwide.
