UNTOLD (2025) REVIEW: Desires and Delulu

We sometimes have our moments that space out because of the many things we think about like what we would eat later, where to go tonight, and sometimes our desires that play out in our mind. It may seem harmless but it is also at our most vulnerable which is what this new film from Regal Entertainment is all about.

Regal is going back to its horror roots this year with a new film starring Jodi Sta. Maria with UNTOLD directed by Derrick Cabrido. It also stars Juan Karlos Labajo, Kaori Oinuma, Lianne Valentin, Mylene Dizon, Joem Bascon, Sarah Edwards and Gloria Diaz. This is also a special film for the company as it is the final film approved by the late Mother Lily Monteverde.

Untold revolves around the character of Jodi named Vivian Vera, a reporter who does expose and hard hitting news. Sometimes the stories are very gruesome and have a more morbid side edited out. Vivian reached her status as a star reporter because of her intense ambition that made her do extreme things.

Things also get complicated when supernatural things also invade her mental state with hallucinations or mystical apparitions. The horrors do take place in her vulnerable state which leaves questions yet essential for the plot. It affects your perception of what is real or not, which is deceiving yet adds suspense to the film.

Jodie indeed was a stand out in the film as I also loathe her character for being too ambitious and reckless. Joem and Juan Karlos are my favorites as they embraced their characters personalities well. Gloria Diaz and Mylene Dizon's characters also goes well with Vivian bringing variety to the film.

Though I was expecting it to be a full-on horror, it did have some punch of comedy in some parts, some relatable, some cheesy. It may not be what I expected but it still makes the film enjoyable. So it's a balance of bringing in scares but also keeps us entertained with its lines and cinematography.

Untold will be showing in cinemas starting April 30.
