"The Hidden World" Opens at No.1, Biggest Opening Ever in "How To Train Your Dragon" Franchise

Filipino fans bade a heartfelt farewell to the “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise as its last chapter “The Hidden World” opened at No.1 at the Philippine box-office with a soaring P91.5-million in a five-day opening weekend (Feb. 20-24).

“The Hidden World” bested the P85-million bow of 2014’s “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” the previous highest opening for the beloved franchise.

Local moviegoers fittingly sent off beloved hero Hiccup and his dragon, Toothless, in a big way, as evidenced by positive post-screening reactions and emotional tributes in social media.

In the U.S., the finale in the animated trilogy opened with $55.5 million, a franchise-best debut. It now also holds the distinction as the biggest opening weekend of the year to date.

"Game of Thrones" Hero Kit Harington Back as Eret in "How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World"

Even though he joined the How to Train Your Dragon series in the second film, Kit Harington has become as much a member of the Dragon family as any other.

Harington’s character, Eret, Son of Eret, one of the bad guys in 2014’s How to Train Your Dragon 2, is proof positive that anyone can change. “Eret has gone from being a nemesis to Hiccup who traps dragons to a man with a good heart trying to protect his men,” says the actor about his character’s evolution. “What we learned with Eret is that, through education, an angry young person’s good essence can be shaped into treating his fellow creatures better. This series has a lot to say about how we treat those creatures in the world around us.”

How To Train Your Dragon 3 The Hidden World - The Fitting Finale?

After almost a decade, the successful film franchise of How To Train Your Dragon will finally have its conclusion with The Hidden World. Based on the series of book by Cressida Cowell, the franchise has also produced TV and streaming series that complemented the films. Now that everything is coming to place, it is fitting for it close with a epic ending.

Hiccup and Toothless has been the best buds throughout the years and seems inseparable. But they do need to grow up and make a bold move to save the village and the dragons who are still constantly hunted. This time they will face Grimmel who aims to get rid of all dragons.

The movie has progressed from the goal of befriending dragons to save and train them in their town of Berk. Hiccup has also grown drastically with the events of the last film. Though it is still OK if you haven't watched the filler episodes which are mainly for side entertainment and added detail to them.

We also get to see Toothless' love interest the Light Fury. Personally she came in a little late, since it would be a great teaser if she had a spot on the second one. Nevertheless she finally fills the heart of our favorite dragon and made the Night Fury romantically ridiculous.

Jay Baruchel Lends Voice to Hiccup One Last Time in "How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World"

Jay Baruchel, who voices Hiccup in the beloved How to Train Your Dragon series, is feeling nostalgic.

“I’ve played this character through hundreds of hours and over 10 years,” says Baruchel about voicing the young Viking Hiccup in the How to Train Your Dragon film trilogy and TV series. “Most people work their whole lives and are never lucky enough to be part of something that’s half as impactful as any of these movies — let alone all of them. It’s a pretty special thing.”

Meet the Light Fury in "How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World"

When director-writer Dean DeBlois considered the engine of change for DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, he began to wonder what coming-of-age would look like for the Night Fury aka Toothless…as the dragon grows to yearn for a life beyond humans.

"The Hidden World" Concludes "How To Train Your Dragon" Trilogy

As the trilogy based on the world she created comes to an end, no one has deeper feelings about saying goodbye to this chapter of Toothless and Hiccup in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World than their creator, author Cressida Cowell.

“It sounds very unlikely, but it’s based on my own childhood,” reflects Cowell, “and the Isle of Berk is a real place where I grew up as a child. Stoick the Vast is based on my relationship with my father. Of course, the ending, ‘There were dragons when I was a boy,’ are the opening words of the books that I wrote 20 years ago when I just had a child. I tell the story from the point of view of the boy growing up, looking back to my own childhood, and Hiccup is a father to Toothless. The themes are so enmeshed with my own life that it’s incredibly bittersweet.”
