REEL DEAL: Ang Manananggal Sa Unit 23B REVIEW

We have seen so many mananangal movies which are a mix of good and bad films. And despite the popularity of the winged pinoy monster, the film adaptations would be too light for a organ eating aswang, but I just saw ANG MANANANGGAL SA UNIT 23B which stars Ryza Cenon and Martin Del Rosario and one of the films featured for QCinema.

As part of QCinema, it also joins the roster which included films Patay Na Si Jesus with Jacklyn Jose and Hinulid with Nora Aunor. As the festival runs on a limited time and cinemas, it drew attention with fans watching the film as well as getting good reviews from film critics.

Personally, I don't have high expectations for the film given that it is a monster movie, and it has limited budget which I thought the effects will be cheaply done, but I was wrong.

First the movie had an interesting feel with the first few minutes, it was going to a romcom phase introducing the characters of Jewel and Nico, however there are some hints on what lies ahead in the story. Then it becomes more dark and violent thereafter. Ryza made a bold statement with the weird yet erotic role, however she clarifies that this does not mean to go full on sexy for future films. Martin Del Rosario is also interesting as the literal boy next door with a little twist, add Vangie Labalan as Nico's Grandmother made the entertainment package.

I love the most about the film was the cinematography, music and effects. They elevated the new feel for Philippine cinema which delivers the message and details without exaggerating. Though it can be also merit a sequel, I say it is excellent in its own way.

#AquaAdevntureWithAlena: This Sang'gre Goes Underwater!

We loved Gabbi Garcia on Naku Boss Ko which tackled the situations of the Elections in the country, and now she soars higher this year as the keeper of the water gem in the new Encantadia which already started and has audiences hooked into the enchanting world of Diwatas and Encandtados.
She now plays Alena, one of the four Sang'gres who bear the responsibilities of keeping the realm peaceful and safe from the greed of Hagorn and his subjects of Hatoria. And there is also a new villain that will enter which is new from the original.

If you have watched the first series back in 2005, we know that Alena has the power of the water gem to use it to control bodies of water. She also have a soulful voice that can also be fatal to opponents. She wields as spear as her weapon and will be linked to Ybarro played by his love team Ruru Madrid.

GMA First Bayani Serye ILUSTRADO Airs Tonight!

It is not Independence Day, nor it is Rizal Day but GMA Network paved way for a whole new series that is different from their drama line up this year. As My Destiny of Tom Rodriguez and Carla Abeliana came to a close last week, the new Bayani Serye will now take over the time slot starring Alden Richards as the most notable hero of the Philippine Revolution duiring the Spanish regime, Dr. Jose Rizal in ILUSTRADO.

Some people only know the stories of others tell them, but for the first time in Philippine television history, GMA News and Public Affairs brings one of the nation's heroes to a new light - one that portrays him as human, someone people could understand, and most of all, love once again.

Wacky Fun On The Set of "Basta Everyday Happy"

I have been to many set visits and found a similar pattern, but every experience is indeed fun. But it has never been as wacky like the set of GMA's morning show "Basta Everyday Happy" which is a cooking, variety, and talk show in one.  The show is hosted by Donita Rose, Alessandra De Rossi, Gladys Reyes and Chef Boy Logro.

It is interesting that the mix of different mix of hosts for the show, especially when they are known to be part of specific generes of entertainment, like Donita who is known to be a VJ, host and now a mom, Gladys known for her kontrabida roles and also a mom, Alessandra for her acting prowess in drama and comedy, and of course Chef Boy who is "The Kusina Master".
