Gloc-9 "Tulay" EP Pushes The OPM Scene Further

With years of hardwork and countless of hits under his belt, the name Gloc-9 has become synonymous to Rap Icon in the OPM Industry. This 2019, Gloc-9 returns with "TULAy" a new EP that brings new music from the rapper and pushes the OPM scene even further.

As its name suggests, Gloc-9 brings two concepts together in "TULAy" — it is a play on the tagalog words "tula" (poem) and "tulay" (bridge), both terms signifying what the rapper wants to embody in this EP. For one, hip-hop is at the forefront as Gloc showcases his skills in writing hard-hitting and socially relevant verses, also experimenting with new styles and flows. But it does not stop there — while the beloved rap icon pushes his music forward, he also uses the EP as a platform to introduce youngblood to the OPM scene.

Gloc-9 Marks 20 Years In The Biz With The Realease of “ROTONDA” EP

Gloc-9 is not one to brag about his work because he believes that it should speak for itself. Yet there is no underestimating his 20 years in the music industry, especially since it is not just about being rapper and performer, but also about being a songwriter.

It also is about having struggled to get to this point where he has nothing to prove, and now realizing that he has in fact put in the work and must only compete with himself. “Kung titingnan ko ‘yung 20 years, parang siguro ang biggest lesson ay ang magpatuloy lang do’n sa gusto mo talagang gawing mga kanta. Kasi siyempre maraming kailangan i-consider minsan, pero kung gano’n kasi, baka hindi ka na makakasulat,” he says.

Gloc-9 Releases New Album "Sukli", Back Again To Star Music

Another OPM icon has come home to Star Music.

After 10 years, OPM rap icon Gloc-9 has finally released his comeback album with the record label titled “Sukli,” for which he also served as the overall producer.

“I'm excited for all the things that I can do now that I’m back with my Star Music family. ‘Sukli’ is an album that proves writing songs is still my dream come true. I am happy that my fans, who continue to support me, will hear the new songs I made,” said Gloc-9.

With six studio albums, one DVD release, and multiple hit songs to his name, Gloc-9 doesn’t really have much more to prove. Yet “Sukli” reveals a rapper who still continues to work hard at his craft, wanting to deliver something new for his listeners.

The album’s carrier single “Hoy!,” whose music video was recently released, is about the Filipino spirit and resilience despite trying times.

MUSIC LYF: Gloc-9’s Myx Music Awards bodes well for mainstream Pinoy music

Gloc-9 won four major awards in the Myx Music Awards 2014 (MMA2014), the most for any artist who was nominated.

But what is more important about this win, is not so much the fact that Gloc-9 won in four out of six categories that he was nominated in, nor that he won four times more than any other artist.

It is that Gloc-9 won it for a song like “Magda.”

The idea of Magdalena is not new. The legend that is Freddie Aguilar introduced us to “Magdalena” in the early 1980’s, a folk song about the plight of a girl who was misunderstood because of the work she was forced into doing. In the Aguilar song, Magdalena is seen as “sawimpalad,” living a wretched life, where her story is one of choicelessness.

MUSIC LYF: Gloc-9 has outdone himself in Liham at Lihim

Last year, Gloc-9 scored big when he released his single Sirena (featuring Ebe Dancel) became a phenomenal hit and a critics’ favorite. Sirena, which tackles the life of gays in a different and inspiring light, also became the favorite collaboration song among the biggest live concert artists like Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Noel Cabangon, among others.

The album Mga Kuwento Ng Makata, which scored a Gold Record award for its outstanding sales, also included the hits Bakit Hindi (with Billy Crawford), Hindi Mo Nadinig (with Jay Durias), among others. The said album was named Album of the Year in the recently-concluded Star Awards for Music.

MUSIC LYF: John Rendez Returns to Rap Recording

With a lot of new rap stars now, its hard to find the artists who started with the "old school" style which paved the careers of rappers like Francis Magalona. But through the years, these rappers either shifted to a different genre or migrated to a different county which made the rap scene a little obscure and branched far from its roots.

Now a returning artist, John Rendez came back to launch his new album under Polyeast Records with the album "Metaldog". Not to be confused with Pitbull or Fliptop artists, John Rendez wants to be known in the music industry with that title with his rap which brings the sound style of the 90s and upgrades that can grab the attention of the present generation.

He might be on the same age range of he popular rap artists, he is very confident that his style stands out among the hiphop artists now. With his first album relased back in the 90s, he still have what it takes to make good tracks that can get the attention of the new rap generation.

Just launched last month,  MKNM is gloc-9's first album with Universal Records and the fourth overall. Gloc-9 again colaborated with other OPM artists like Billy Crawford, Jay Durias, Ebe Dancel, Bamboo Manalac, Chito Miranda, and his Protege Denise Barbacena.

BLAH BLAH BLOGS BER EDITION: Happy Birthday Francis Magalona

Being a follower of the Master Rapper its great to meet his family which I see is a very happy one though sad since he left the world at his age. I have loved his song, though I am not really into rap, but I was deeply moved with his words of wisdom and actions that moved me and challenged me to be a better Filipino. This remains a challenge to me like everybody else but somehow though this blog I can also influence others to do the same, the call for change is always there but few only would dare to take it.

MUSIC LYF: Gloc 9

I got the chance to meet one my favorite artist in the music industry in terms of rapping. He is considered a protege with his skills in composing and rapping which some (and I) also consider the faster rapper in the country. With popular songs like Walang Natira, Upuan, Elmer, Lando, Simpleng Tao, and many songs collaborated with the celebrated musicians in the industry.  He is a legend in the making, GLOC 9!
