MARIA Redefines Pinoy Action Movies

A great way as we end Women's Month is show how powerful women can be and can par with men with the most nerve-wracking situations and tasks. Pedring Lopez's MARIA wants to prove that to the Pinoy movie goers. Starring Cristine Reyes, the movie is a revenge film of a former assassin that have embraced a new life got caught in the web of her former organization.

The film is something that wants to prove a lot of things. First, that women can also do hardcore action just like Anne Curtis in Buybust. Second, it redefines pinoy action not exclusive to be led by male protagonists but also by female actresses who can handle the very tough environment of high octane scenes. Finally it also aims to raise pinoy action to compete with international action films in Southeast Asia primarily.

MARIA - Deadly, Brutal, Violent, And We Love It!

I love that action films are getting a revival like Buybust, and I think it is time that they will push Philippine cinema further. I was excited to know that Viva Films will be offering another action movie with Maria. Directed by Pedring Lopez and stars Cristine Reyes, and co-production with BlackOps Studios Asia and Psyops8.

Though its simple name for a title, it has an interesting story that leads to a complicated and gritty network of violence. Maria is a revenge story of an assassin who is out for blood when her family gets caught in a war that involves politics and drugs. But she does not do revenge peacefully, because of her past she is built to fight and it will get really violent.

It was a wise choice to have Cristine Reyes to play Maria because she is into martial arts, fitness, and also a mother. Features that makes her fit to do the strenuous work needed to do as she fights her way to all her enemies.

His parents, however, still cling to the revered Indian tradition of choosing the right partner for their son. Ella, on the other hand, is a young Filipina businesswoman who sources accessories for a jewelry shop in Makati. Her work brings her to Mumbai, India where she didn’t expect to meet the man of her dreams.
