“People screaming together, jumping together, popcorn flying at the same time” – director talks about why “LEE CRONIN’S THE MUMMY” is best seen in cinemas, starting April 15

Director Lee Cronin is hoping audiences will watch his new horror film, “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy,” on the big screen.

“I always think horror movies are best shared with the collective,” says Cronin, well-known to horror audiences for directing and writing the 2023 hit “Evil Dead Rise.” “You get that sense of movement and motion within a room when you get people screaming together, jumping together, popcorn flying at the same time.”

In “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy,” the young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace. Eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare. Produced by James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville, the film stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, with Veronica Falcón.

Lee Cronin, James Wan and Jason Blum talk about “bringing the Mummy back to its roots, which is scary as hell” in “LEE CRONIN’S THE MUMMY,” only in cinemas starting APRIL 15

Director Lee Cronin (“Evil Dead Rise”) didn’t think he would be making a movie about the iconic monster that is the mummy – until he realized that “there hasn’t been a truly terrifying version made before.”

“That drew my interest in, but as always, I needed to find a story,” shares Cronin about what made him want to do his latest horror film. “And once I did that, I started to get really engaged and involved with what this thing could become.”

“THEY WILL KILL YOU” features “Zazie Beetz running with real fire and just whooping people” in one fight scene, says the director of the horror/action/comedy, now showing only in cinemas

“‘They Will Kill You’ is an action movie that is also a horror movie that has a bit of a comedy in it.”

Says director Kirill Sokolov about his latest movie, which he also wrote. “It has a lot of stunts, a lot of action,” he continues. “In every scene, something is happening. Our first goal was to do as much as possible practically. Zazie [Beetz] and our cast wanted to be involved as much as possible, so they trained and they did a lot.”

Zazie Beetz, who plays the film’s main character, Asia, trained for four months prior to the start of principal photography, including three weeks in Cape Town. In the blood-soaked, high-octane horror-action-comedy, Beetz plays a young woman who must survive the night at the Virgil, a demonic cult’s mysterious and twisted death-trap of a lair, before becoming their next offering in a uniquely brazen, big screen battle of epic kills and wickedly dark humor. The film also stars Myha’La, Paterson Joseph, Tom Felton, Heather Graham, and Patricia Arquette.

“We used Dante's ‘Inferno’ as inspiration, where every floor is literally a different circle of hell,” says director of horror-action-comedy “THEY WILL KILL YOU,” produced by Andy and Barbara Muschietti and starring Zazie Beetz, only in cinemas MARCH 25

“Our production designer is a mad genius,” says director and co-writer Kirill Sokolov of Jeremy Reed, his production designer for “They Will Kill You.” In the blood-soaked, high-octane horror-action-comedy, a young woman (Zazie Beetz) must survive the night at the Virgil, a demonic cult’s mysterious and twisted death-trap of a lair, before becoming their next offering in a uniquely brazen, big screen battle of epic kills and wickedly dark humor. The film also stars Myha’La, Paterson Joseph, Tom Felton, Heather Graham, and Patricia Arquette.

Fun as hell. Bloody as hell. Satanic as hell. Find out the inspiration for director Kirill Sokolov’s horror-action-comedy “THEY WILL KILL YOU,” produced by Andy Muschietti and starring Zazie Beetz, only in cinemas MARCH 25

Director Kirill Sokolov had a blast working on his new movie “They Will Kill You.” The horror-action-comedy, which he wrote and directed, is produced by Andy Muschietti, acclaimed director of horror hits including “It,” “It Chapter Two” and “Mama,” and features an ensemble cast that includes Zazie Beetz (“Invincible”), Tom Felton, Heather Graham and Patricia Arquette.

“There was a real situation that inspired me for this script,” says Sokolov in a new featurette for the movie. Ten years ago, he and wife rented an apartment in a building where everyone seemingly knew each other. The situation kicked his imagination into overdrive. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they came and take us and sacrifice us and maybe that’s how will they prolong their lives. After that, we just fast-forward to this movie.”

Director Maggie Gyllenhaal empowers the bride of Frankenstein, giving her “huge amounts of agency, intelligence, vulnerability and power,” in “THE BRIDE!”

Starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale, watch “THE BRIDE!” in cinemas and IMAX, starting March 4

Academy Award nominee Jessie Buckley in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride!”

Maggie Gyllenhaal was at a party when she had a spark of a brilliant idea for her next story.

“I saw this tattoo of the Bride of Frankenstein at a party and I thought, “Something about this character has captured our culture,’” says Academy Award nominee Gyllenhaal. “And I then went back and watched the movie [“Bride of Frankenstein” (1935)]  for the first time, because I had never seen it, and I found it really interesting that she’s not really in it. I will say Elsa Lanchester makes a real impact. I mean, she’s in it for three minutes, but she has somehow taken the culture by storm. But to be honest, she doesn’t talk. She doesn’t speak. She doesn’t get an opportunity to express herself. And I thought it was an interesting puzzle. This guy [Frankenstein] understandably is so lonely looking for a mate. But then, just anyone will do, and bringing someone back who doesn’t have any agency herself. So, what happens if you take that same format, that same story, but you give her a huge amount of agency, and give her a huge amount of need, and intelligence, and soulfulness, and vulnerability, and power? Then what happens? That seemed like a puzzle worth getting into.”
