Ortigas Arts Festival Now On Its 5th Year With More Dance, Film and Forms of Art

The art experience continues with the 5th year of the Ortigas Art Festival that features visual arts, fashion designs, film, dance and more. Now becoming the most diverse arts festival in the metro, it has now grown to greater heights along with the growth of the premiere Ortigas Mall, Estancia.
“This year’s festival paints a broader stroke of Philippine art where we encompass more art forms from visual art, film, dance, and even pottery,” said Renato “Mang Ato” R. Habulan, head curator of Ortigas Art Festival. “We want to show the diversity of talents across many disciplines Filipino artists have and we are honored to present all of those–and more–through this year’s exhibit and festivities.”
Launched in 2018, the Ortigas Art Festival was created with the goal of making art accessible to everyone. From featuring over 60 local artists during its first run, the number of artists who participated in the festival reached more than 200 and even included artists from Southeast Asia, America, and Europe in 2020.
Running from July 7, 2022 (Thursday) until August 7, 2022 (Sunday), the festival will showcase a wider variety of Filipino arts and culture across five pillars: Painting & Sculpture, Film and Photography, Dance and Fashion, ArtisTree, and Workshops.
Baro't Saya Tuwa At Ligaya - First Solo Exhibit of Edgard San Diego
SM Megamall proudly presents the first solo art exhibit of noted fashion designer EDGAR SAN DIEGO titled ‘BARO’T SAYA TUWA AT LIGAYA’ from October 9 - 15, 2021 at the Ground Level, Mega Fashion Hall at SM Megamall.
The theme of the exhibit is a ‘Tribute of Joy to the Filipina and her Traditional Dress amidst the Pandemic.’
Edgar’s love for the beautiful Filipina, traditions, costumes and production design is evident on his paintings, keeping in mind that the colors are bright and the subjects are happy in creating positive vibes which we need most in this pandemic. He chose to deal with beautiful characters in their colorful costumes and nostalgic scenarios.
Why this crossover from fashion design to visual arts ?
“I turned 60 last March 13, 2020. And then after 2 days, the lockdown was imposed. I thought that it was only going to last for a month or two. So to keep me away from boredom, I cleaned the house, reorganized my cabinets and do things that I neglected when I was busy with my dress shop. However, when I ran out of things to fix, I decided to pick up my brushes and called my canvas supplier. Luckily, she was open all the time to accept my orders. What I did was to order an extra 4 to 6 canvases which eventually gave me no excuse to stop.”

As the quarantine keeps everyone at home for their safety, many young Filipinos spend their time honing their skills and creativity, finding ways to express themselves. With all this free time on their hands, there are those who even go the extra mile when it comes to being creative.
This was certainly the case for 19-year-old communication student Thea Sophia Disabelle, from Bantayan Island, Cebu, who stirred buzz on the internet after creating art not just through traditional mediums, but also using a medium no one thinks could be used for art: soy sauce. Yes, the very same soy sauce you ordinarily see in kitchens at home.
“It all started when I poured a little amount of soy sauce into a saucer, since I needed it for my fried fish,” said Thea, who made her first soy sauce artwork back in March using Silver Swan Soy Sauce, a staple in their pantry. “After that, I paused for three seconds while staring at it—something was beautifully formed. After I had my breakfast that day, I asked myself, ‘Why not make art using soy sauce?’”

Manining Miclat Art Awards 2018: Deadline For Submission Of Entries Extended Up to July 31
The Maningning Miclat Art Foundation, Inc. (MMAFI), in cooperation with District Gallery and Far Eastern University, is pleased to announce the extension of submission of Online Entries to the 2018 Maningning Art Competition to July 31, 2018.
Entries must be submitted to maningning2018@gmail.com. Image file of the entry must be high-quality, high-definition, and in JPG format. Pancho Piano's Hagod Exhibit Is Now On Display At Okada Manila
Bicolano Artist Pancho M.Piano has proven his artistry in visual arts throughout the years. Known for his award-winning works locally and internationally, his works speaks for itself and draws appreciation and clients. He is known for his works which reflects Bicolano life, festivals and culture. Drawn from his experience of the places he had been to, the paintings has the charm of nostalgia for Filipinos and introduces the Pinoy culture to foreigners.Recently he opened a exhibit at Okada Manila titled Hagod featuring paintings made in recent years. Hagod by definition is stroke which defines the artworks made of different styles of strokes and themes. With some follow a colorful approach that catches attention. The exhibit are opened in May 24 displayed at the Coral wing until June 23.

Renaissance Art Gallery's celebrated their 10th year anniversary with an exhibit called “ RenaiXance – A Decade of Renaissance Art Gallery ” was unveiled on June 5, 2013 at the Art Center located at the 4/F SM Megamall Bldg. A, Ortigas Center.

Seeing a lot of artists in one venue makes it a very interesting sight for art lovers and newbies like me which looks up to Pinoy artists for their works that range from the contemporary to the bizarre which plays with one's imagination. We went around to see the artworks and I can say that I am a fan of sculptures and photography, works of National Artist Abdulmari Imao and photos of Jim Paredes are works you should not miss when you visit the exhibit.

ART IS A BANG: Call for Entries for Manila Archdiocese Painting Competition
Young Filipino artists will have a chance to showcase their talent and passion for the art at the Manila archdiocese’s 5th annual painting competition.
Organized by the archdiocese’s Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church, the contest has actually started last December and scheduled to end this month.
The theme for this year’s competition is “The Rosary, its Mysteries and the Filipino Family.” The contest is open to Filipino students and out-of-school youths, ages 15 to 25 years old. Organizers said the contest hopes to foster contemporary artistic interpretations of the Catholic faith particularly among young artists, and seeks to promote awareness and appreciation of religious art.
The first prize-winner will take home P40,000. The second placer will receive P30,000. The winner for third place will receive P20,000. Three “Juror’s Choices” will also receive P10,000 each.
Submission of artwork entries is on Jan. 27, 2012 at the Museo ng Arkidiyosesis ng Maynila in Intramuros, Manila. Awarding of winners will be on February 4, 2012.

For the first serving of this we are featuring Painter Manuel Baldemor. Known to have painted festivals in vivid colors, was also the artist behind the SM greenbags. He is actually quite busy lately with trips and exhibitions around the world.
His works usually have colorful and bright paintings which usually depicts Philippine festival and also nature. Now in a unique exhibition at SM Megamall. DMC, a company known for making cross stitch treads and patterns have remade the works of M. Baldemor into real cross stitch works of art! For most of us, this art might have been extinct because of the fewer people who still engage in the craft, but it looked very interesting to look at, also if you would compare the original masterpiece to the cross stitch version.
This unique style actually has a charitable cause for every purchase of the M. Baldemor patterns bought from DMC stores. Also if you would finish one, you might have a chance to get it signed by the artist, terms and conditions apply. I have to say that this is a very unique art crossover.
