Gawad Buhay 2017 Nominations Out - Tanghalang Pilipino 'Ang Pag-uusig And Ballet Manila's 'Ibong Adarna" Take Lead

Through Facebook Live, the Gawad Buhay—the Philstage Awards for the Performing Arts, which marks its 10th anniversary this year—announced the nominations for the 2017 awards, culled from productions and performances by Philstage member-companies last year.

The FB Live event, held at the lobby of The Theatre at Solaire, was hosted by Audie Gemora and Karla Gutierrez, Philstage president and treasurer, respectively.

REPERTORY PHILIPPINES SET TO OPEN “SCROOGE THE MUSICAL” ON NOVEMBER 21

​Repertory Philippines proudly announces its special holiday treat for the entire family with the new production of SCROOGE THE MUSICAL. 

SCROOGE THE MUSICAL is an adaptation by renowned writer-composer-lyricist Leslie Bricusse of the classic short story ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens.  The story is about the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge who undergoes a profound experience of redemption over the course of a Christmas Eve night, after being visited by the ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.

​SCROOGE THE MUSICAL is set to open on November 21, 2014 at Onstage, 2/F, Greenbelt 1, Paseo de Roxas cor. Legazpi St., Makati City. 

​The Repertory Philippines’ production of SCROOGE THE MUSICAL will be directed by Ms. Baby Barredo, the company’s artistic director. 

ART IS A BANG: Cast of "Noises Off" Take Off Starting March 28

Repertory Philippines proudly presents the hilarious NOISES OFF, the third offering for its 77th season.

Written in 1982 by English playwright Michael Frayn, NOISES OFF —a stage term indicating sounds coming from offstage—is a play within a play, the story of a temperamental director and a troupe of hapless performers putting up a silly sex farce called Nothing On. 

The present production of NOISES OFF, which is directed by Miguel V. Faustmann, runs from March 28 to April 13 and from April 25 to April 27, 2014 at Onstage, 2/F, Greenbelt 1, Paseo de Roxas corner Legazpi St., Makati City.

ART IS A BANG: "Pinocchio" Auditions on March 30 and April 6

Auditions for lead roles and ensemble for the Repertory Philippines Theater for Young Audiences Production of “ PINOCCHIO ” will be held on March 30 and April 6 at 6:00 pm at the Onstage Theater, Greenbelt One, Makati City. 

Applicants will be tested for voice, musicality, the ability to pick up notes quickly and skill at parts singing, acting, and movement. 

The ability to speak good English is a requirement for all lead roles. 

Application forms and audition material may be picked up at the REP office at Unit 14 Ecoville Executive town homes, Metropolitan Avenue (please bring your own flash drive) Or email olison14@yahoo.com.

ART IS A BANG: Auditions For Pinocchio Set On March 1

Repertory Theater for Young Audiences is holding auditions for the title role of Pinocchio in the forthcoming production of the same name opening on August 16, 2014. Auditions will be held on Saturday, March 1 at 10:00am at the Onstage theater 2nd floor Greenbelt One.

Auditions are open to boys and girls 10 to 15 years of age .Girls must be willing to play a boy. Boys older than 15 should be less then 5 ft.. Those who audition should be able to sing in a high or tenor voice, to move well and be able to take choreography, and to speak good English.

RYTA is specially searching for home schooled children who can perform on weekdays. Because of the number of performances, the role of Pinocchio will be alternately played by at least five actors.

Auditioners should fill out an application form available either at the REP office or on line and learn the audition song before the auditions. Repertory Philippines proudly announces its second offering for the Season 2014 with “ AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY ” - The 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama written by Tracy Letts.

AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY is set to open on February 21 and shall run up to March 9, 2014 at Onstage, 2/F, Greenbelt 1, Paseo de Roxas corner Legazpi St., Makati City.  

AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY is set on the plains of modern day, middle-class Oklahoma. The Weston family members are all intelligent, sensitive creatures who have the uncanny ability of making each other absolutely miserable. When the patriarch of the household mysteriously vanishes, the Weston clan gathers together to simultaneously support and attack one another.  
 

ART IS A BANG: "Wait Until Dark" Gave Me Mixed Emotions

January starts with a Thriller with Repertory Philippines with the staging of "Wait Until Dark" at OnStage Greenbelt. As unlike the usual musicals and comedies on stage, this one starts the year with an eerie and thrilling production of the stage play by Frederick Knott which dates back to 1966.

This thriller has been staged countless times and has even made into a motion picture starring  Alan Arkin and the late Audrey Hepburn and Richard Crena. And for 2014, Repertory starts their 77th season with this dark yet engaging production.

Having great plays for the year like Alice in Wonderland and the Producers marks an amazing 2013 for the company and this inspires them to come up with materials that would bring patrons coming back to the stage. ART IS A BANG: Record-Breaking Broadway Comedy "The Producers" Set To Open On November 15

In celebration of its 46th year, Repertory Philippines proudly announces the last production for its 76th theater season with THE PRODUCERS, the hilarious Broadway musical based on the 1968 Mel Brooks film of the same name.

Written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan, with songs arranged by Glen Kelly and Doug Besterman, the original Broadway production of THE PRODUCERS (which opened at the St. James Theater on April 19, 2001 and starred Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick) won an unprecedented 12 Tony Awards, running for 2,502 performances. It spawned a successful London production running for just over two years, US national tours, many productions worldwide, and a 2005 film version.

THE PRODUCERS is about two wily theatrical producers who cook up a scheme to get rich by overselling interests in a Broadway flop. The humor of the show draws on ridiculous accents, homosexual stereotypes, and Nazis, along with many show business in-jokes. It is a satirical comedy that is deep enough for both insiders and outsiders of the theatre industry.

The humor of the show draws on ridiculous accents, homosexual stereotypes, and Nazis, along with many show business in-jokes.

The original Broadway production, starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, opened at the St. James Theatre on April 19, 2001 and ran for 2,502 performances, winning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards. It spawned a successful London production running for just over two years, US national tours, many productions worldwide, and a 2005 film version.

Directed by Jaime del Mundo, the cast of THE PRODUCERS features CARLO OROSA and ROBIE ZIALCITA (alternating as Max Bialystock), TOPPER FABREGAS (as Leo Bloom), and GISELLE TONGI (as Ulla).
