Tolentino Says Local Film Industry Needs Shot In The Arm

Former MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino vowed to continue helping and reviving the Philippine film industry, which he said has been severely affected by piracy and the entry of foreign films.

Tolentino noted that the cost of film making has rapidly increased that it’s cheaper to import foreign films than produce movies locally.

He said piracy has resulted in huge revenue losses for producers and film makers. In 2013, the intellectual property office recorded a P7.5 billion cost of seized counterfeit films.

REEL DEAL: Our Brand Is Crisis REVIEW

Elections are coming up, and this would be the most timely movie for the upcoming election season with OUR BRAND IS CRISIS starring Sandra Bullock and Billy Bob Thornton. A political story based on a documentary of the 2002 Bolivian Presidential Elections where the characters are a fictional version of real candidates.

Set in 2002, Bolivian politician Pedro Castillo (a fictionalized version of Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada) hires an American political consulting firm (based on James Carville's Greenberg Carville Shrum firm) to help him win the 2002 Bolivian presidential election. The firm brings in Jane Bodine (Sandra Bullock) to manage the campaign in Bolivia. Battling her arch nemesis, the opposition's political consultant, fellow American Pat Candy (Billy Bob Thornton).

The film bridges the situation of both American and Bolivian campaign strategy which involves extraordinary activities which will push their candidates up the polls. It also mirrors the Philippine political situation which are also seen today as the country will also have the national elections. Politicians and campaign staff of the candidates would learn a thing or two from this movie, well hopefully positive.

Boboy Syjuco Vows Fastest Internet For National Progress

Among the presidentiables today, there has been a lot of issues going on but there wasn't one who has a platform for internet reform. As the biggest market in the world for Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) and growing e-commerce and online demand, the country faces one of the poorest broadband service as well as the slowest LTE connection in the world. Such a contrast to the potential investment and revenues the county, and the people can benefit from this technology.

Presidential aspirant Augusto "Boboy" Syjuco, the former secretary for TEDSA, current congressman of the 2nd District of Iloilo, and presidential candidate of KBL has laid out a 15-day implementation of platforms that will revolutionize the county. Among them is Day 7 which will aim for the fastest internet connection that can rival power communication powerhouse like Singapore and Japan with speeds around 60-70 Mbps.

Chipette To The Rescue In “ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS 4: THE ROAD CHIP”

Widely and wildly loved character and comedic actors Kaley Cuoco (“Big Bang Theory”), Anna Faris (“Mom,” “Scary Movie” franchise) and Christina Applegate (“Vacation”) reprise their roles voicing the charming Chipettes in the latest family road-adventure “Alvin and The Chipmunks 4: The Road Chip.”

In “Alvin and the Chipmunks 4: The Road Chip,” the boys hit the road for a coming-of-age journey across the U.S.  During their storied misadventures, Alvin (voiced by Justin Long), Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Theodore (Jesse McCartney) have always had to solve problems … they’ve created themselves!  But during their road chip, and for the first time, they’re on a mission to keep their family together.

The idea of Dave tying the knot doesn’t thrill the boys; in fact, they fear it’ll uproot their lives – and maybe uproot them from Dave’s home!  Further complicating matters is Sam’s teenage son, Miles (Josh Green), who has an instant dislike of the Chipmunks, who feel the same way about Miles.  Along their journey, Alvin, Theodore and Simon need to make things right with the help of the Chipettes, Eleanor (Cuoco), Jeanette (Faris) and Brittany (Applegate) who are now music icons seated to discover rising talents in their own television show.  Alvin, along with the help of the Chipettes tries to gain Dave’s trust once again after Alvin, Theodore and Simon accidentally ruined a romantic night during Dave’s business trip in Miami.

“The opportunity to experience new locations through the Chipmunks’ eyes is very compelling,” notes director Walt Becker.  Additionally, “Everybody remembers family trips, which can be equal parts adventures and tortuous experiences, so that’s very relatable.”

“Alvin and the Chipmunks 4: The Road Chip” shakes things up, musically.  Each stop on the ‘Munks’ and Miles’ quest has its own special character and different musical influence – from modern, hip-hop/country vibe of an Austin, Texas bar to the great jazz, blues and funk of New Orleans, and finally to the Latin flair of Miami.

Continuing a soundtrack tradition for the series, Alvin and the Chipmunks put their own delightful new spin on smashes including “Uptown Funk,” “Turn Down For What,” and more. In addition, Redfoo and the boys trade verses on “Juicy Wiggle (Munk Remix).” The soundtrack also features Sheppard’s platinum-certified international hit “Geronimo” and The Score’s “Oh My Love.”

“Alvin and the Chipmunks 4: The Road Chip” opens January 20 in cinemas from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.
