Final Leg of the EastWest Dream Run Set for Manila

EastWest officially kicked off the final leg of the Dream Run 2025 with a media launch in Makati City. Set for June 15, 2025 at Filinvest City, Alabang, the run marks the last stop in a three-city series marking EastWest’s 30th Anniversary and the Filinvest Group’s 70th year. This June, Fathers of Circumstances brings together five deeply moving films from Japan and the Philippines that challenge conventional ideas of fatherhood. The screenings will take place on June 14–15, 2025 at Red Carpet Cinemas, Shangri-La Plaza, curated by Eunice Helera, a film programmer and festival coordinator. The program is part of the Professional Development and Networking Initiative for ASEAN-Japan Film Programmers and Curators, organized by the Japan Foundation in partnership with the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF). 

The lineup features Like Father, Like Son (2013) by Hirokazu Kore-eda, Dear Etranger (2017) by Yukiko Mishima, Close-Knit (2017) by Naoko Ogigami, Kinakausap ni Celso ang Diyos (2024) by Gilb Baldoza, and Ang Tatay Kong Nanay (1978) by Lino Brocka. 

These films span across class, gender, and kinship—offering a spectrum of what it means to care, provide, and stay. Kore-eda’s exploration of fatherhood from both affluent and working-class perspectives finds resonance in Baldoza’s Filipino fathers, who may lack money but never intention. In Mishima’s Dear Etranger, the longing to be accepted as a stepfather is quiet and piercing. In Close-Knit and Ang Tatay Kong Nanay, it is a transgender woman and a gay man who step into the role of parent—not through biology, but through pure will and love.

With a larger production grant and record-breaking 285 submissions from Filipino filmmakers around the globe, the QCinema International Film Festival presents the six new projects selected for the 2025 QCShorts program.

“The voices behind this year’s QCShorts program are composed mostly of new filmmaking talent—as over a half the roster of directors and producers are still undergraduate students at various universities,” says Jason Tan Liwag, head of short film programming at QCinema. “It’s exciting because there’s clearly a new generation of filmmakers, most of whom were born in the 2000s and have only had a limited number of shorts under their belt, who are seeking support. Norman Agatep, Chairman and CEO of integrated marketing communication firm Grupo Agatep, has been named one of the inaugural honorees of Campaign Asia-Pacific’s “50 Over Fifty”, a list that honors the most inspiring marketing and communications professionals aged 50 and above across the region.

Agatep is one of only two Filipino honorees in the list released last April 29. The “50 Over Fifty” list celebrates outstanding professionals across 14 markets in the Asia-Pacific region. The recognition highlights his decades of leadership, innovation, and lasting impact on the Philippine communications industry.

The Philippines’ most popular band is bringing their music to different parts of the country, the United States, and Singapore starting this month 

The Philippines’ biggest folk-pop band Ben&Ben will be bringing their music to Cebu, Bacolod, and Davao for the Philippine leg of their The Traveller Across Dimensions World Tour. Overseas performances will also take place in Singapore and different parts of the United States later in the year. 

Tickets are already available for the May 24 show at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino, with announcements for the June 8 show at the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod and the June 22 performance at the SMX Convention Center in Davao to come in the next few weeks.

Multimedia artist, comedy icon, and master impersonator Jon Santos will reprise his role as The Sandbox Collective restages a strictly limited run of its hit one-act play, BAWAT BONGGANG BAGAY (BBB).

Presented by The Sandbox Collective’s new arm, Sandbox Co.labs, in partnership with Ayala Land and Circuit Makati, BBB will bring back its hilarious and heart-warming portrayal of love, loss, and mental health to Filipino audiences.

In celebration of Pride Month 2025, BBB returns after its sold out engagements in 2023 and 2024. This year’s BBB also marks Santos’ fourth run of the show.

BAWAT BONGGANG BAGAY is the Filipino-translated staging of Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe’s Every Brilliant Thing. Award-winning playwright, translator, actor, and director Guelan Luarca worked on its translation and original staging in 2023. BBB is an intimate and interactive play that follows the story of a young child growing up with a parent suffering from mental illness. The show continues the conversation on mental health by bringing real and pressing issues to the forefront, and by creating a safe and communal space where audiences become part and parcel of the storytelling.
