To attain this, professionals now are inclined towards collaboration and creating a positive and friendly corporate environment wherein employees have reduced work stress that, in turn, results in diminished absenteeism.

On the other hand, there are work-related matters that are also affected by the changing times. The corporate dress code is one. These days, employees are increasingly seen donning outfits that they’d wear at a typical night out, something that was not ideal or allowed before. While workforce nowadays may be averse to donning traditional office attires, must they totally disregard propriety and decorum when dressing up for work?

The perfect movie for Holy Week: “RISEN” exclusively at SM Cinema

Just in time for Holy Week: SM Cinema presents a cinexclusive entitled “RISEN:” an action, mystery, and drama film as told by a roman soldier commanded to disprove rumors of a risen Messiah in order to prevent an uprising in Jerusalem.

RISEN is the epic Biblical story of the Resurrection, as told through the eyes of a non-believer. Clavius (Joseph Fiennes), a powerful Roman military tribune, and his aide, Lucius (Tom Felton), are tasked to solve and refute the mystery of a “Messiah’s” resurrection in the weeks following the crucifixion, in order to avert a revolution in Jerusalem. Following the directive of Roman prefect Pontius Pilate who had been urged by the Pharisees and scribes to seal and guard the tomb of the supposed “King of the Jews,” Centurion Clavius was forced to resolve the conspicuous investigation of a tomb found empty three days after the Messiah’s execution. Initially speculating the involvement of the Christ’s disciples in stealing the body of Yeshua (Jesus as referred to Hebrew name in film), Clavius finds himself on a road of self-discovery, on who Jesus Christ truly was, and possibly why the mighty Roman Empire had felt threatened.

Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book" to Touch New Generation‏

Disney’s “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli, a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan, who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera, and the free-spirited bear Baloo. Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa, a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie, who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.

Based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories, “The Jungle Book” is inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, with an approach all its own. “We embrace the mythic qualities of Kipling in the more intense tonal aspects of the film,” says director Jon Favreau,“but we left room for what we remember from the ’67 film, and sought to maintain those charming Disneyesque aspects.”

“Kipling’s stories follow Joseph Campbell’s ‘hero with a thousand faces’ view of mythic storytelling,” adds Favreau. “You have the rise of the hero—a young boy coming of age in the jungle in this environment with all of these archetypal characters. As a filmmaker I find this as very fertile soil.”

Kipling’s stories have been adapted several times in the 12 decades that followed their publication. Directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ animated movie, “The Jungle Book,” was overhauled when Walt Disney felt that early drafts, which retained the darker tone of Kipling’s stories, were too serious. Released on Oct. 18, 1967, a year after Disney’s death, the film became a beloved classic. With iconic songs like Terry Gilkyson’s “The Bare Necessities” and the Sherman Brothers’ “I Wanna Be Like You,” the film’s soundtrack still inspires instantaneous humming and toe-tapping today. Disney’s “The Jungle Book” was released theatrically two more times, as well as in-home video, DVD and Blu-ray releases, earning fans across generations and rooting Mowgli and his animal friends and foes in hearts around the world.

“The bond between Mowgli and Baloo made a very strong impression on me as a kid,” says Favreau. “It reminded me of my own relationship with my grandfather, who was a big part of my life. I really like that Mowgli is rambunctious, always getting into trouble. He isn’t the standard well-behaved kid, but a bit precocious—a ‘Dennis the Menace’ type. He isn’t intimidated by these big wild animals, in fact, he’s completely at home among them. He’s a tough kid but also very vulnerable emotionally, especially with Baloo.

“There was a fun quality to Disney’s classic animated version of ‘The Jungle Book,’” continues Favreau. “I loved the music and I remember having vivid dreams about the characters. The scenes that made a big visual impression on me—that I am carrying over to this version of film—are images of Mowgli going down the river on the belly of Baloo, the python Kaa with its hypnotic eyes, and the majesty of those elephants marching by.”

The wild adventure swings into Philippine theaters in 3D on April 06, 2016. “The Jungle Book” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures through Columbia Pictures. REEL DEAL: Risen REVIEW

Lent is already here for the year, and beyond the anticipation for fantasy and heroic films, it is also the year for a whole new movie with a biblical adaptation. Columbia Pictures comes up with the movie RISEN starring Joseph Finnes and Tom Felton.

Risen takes its gospel inspiration starting from calvary and the death of Jesus. Tribune (Finnes) is a Roman official who was assigned and oversee execution and burial orders from Pontius Pilate. However the simple task became complicated with the "disappearance"  of body of Yeshua. Now it becomes a political crisis for the Romans and religious dilemma to the Pharisees.

Though the story of Tribune is not canon, the film takes inspiration from all the four gospels, historical accuracy, and woven into a new perspective of the story of Christ as it focus on his promised resurrection and ascension. Though there are several creative inputs for the film, they made sure it is still within the scriptural interpretation.

Eye protection for gamers

Gamers spend an average of 5 hours a day in front of a computer, and with the long hours spent online—building armies and forts or destroying opponents in the battlefield –gamers are most prone to a common eye disorder called digital strain.

Digital strain is a condition caused by prolonged exposure to harmful blue light emitted from the excessive use of digital devices such as computers, laptops, tablets and smart phones. It is characterized by symptoms such as constant headaches, eye fatigue, redness and blurred vision. If left untreated, digital strain may lead to more serious eye disorders like retinal damage, which can contribute to age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Rivals Turned Buddies Derek & Hansel Return in "Zoolander 2"‏

The fashionably unbreakable tandem of male models Derek (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson) returns in Paramount Pictures' hilarious comedy, “Zoolander 2,” the sequel to the 2001 cult classic “Zoolander.”

The road to Derek and Hansel’s return to the big screen was long and winding, spanning 15 years and several incarnations. With each incarnation throughout the development process, the return of the duo of Derek and Hansel, was unwavering, constant, and always central to the story.

When operating in a world as outrageous as that of male models in the fashion industry, the strength of the characters is what essentially grounds the movie, and director and screenwriter Ben Stiller knew the return of the core tandem was paramount. “At the end of the day people connect with characters. When someone tells me that they love Zoolander, to me that means that they love the characters and Derek and Hansel, because they are what make it what it is,” remarks Stiller.

"Cinderella's" Holliday Grainger Weathers "The Finest Hours"‏

She most recently delighted audiences as one of the cruel stepsisters in director Kenneth Branagh's “Cinderella” opposite Lily James and Cate Blanchett.

Now, British actress Holliday Grainger stars in Disney's sea rescue tale “The Finest Hours” as the headstrong fiancée of Chris Pine's character, who has no problem speaking her mind, especially when it comes to her fiance's safety.

“The Finest Hours” is based on the extraordinary true story of the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history in the U.S. Presented in Digital 3D, the film transports audiences to the heart of the action, creating a fully-immersive cinematic experience on an epic scale. The film also stars Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Ben Foster and Eric Bana.

“Miriam is an interesting character,” says Grainger. “She is so strong and determined to get what she wants, and even though she’s an educated woman, all she really wants is to get married. I loved the idea and the style of the 1950s and that kind of small town regional American mindset, which was a headspace I’d never really played before.”

Says director Craig Gillespie, “Miriam is this very independent woman, which feels a little unusual for that time period, but she actually ends up challenging Chris Pine's Bernie to think for himself. Portraying a powerful woman is such a great opportunity for an actress, and Holliday does a superb job of maintaining that fine line between being strong but not too intimidating. The chemistry between her and Chris is just beautiful, and you really are yearning for them to end up together.”

Miriam’s journey throughout the film is to be able to comprehend the world that Bernie comes from and to learn to be secure in the fact that marrying him means marrying into that world. She explains, “Bernie cares about her so much and doesn’t want to introduce her into his world of danger because he’s saving people’s lives every day and doesn’t know when—or if—he’s ever coming back.”

“The movie is as much about the rescue mission as it is about the challenges of a relationship and how one makes the decision to fully commit to be with someone,” says producer Jim Whitaker, “and so in a way, what’s happening at sea is like a metaphor to what’s happening on shore, and Miriam is the anchor of that emotional journey, both for Bernie and herself.”

The way Bernie and Miriam met is a story in and of itself: she was a telephone operator and listened in on one of his calls where he politely cancelled a date due to a flat tire, and was smitten. “She heard his voice and said ‘that’s the man I’m going to marry,’” she says. “They dated on the phone for several weeks and got to know everything about each other before agreeing to meet, and the rest is history.” Bernie and Miriam Webber were married on April 16, 1952, as planned, and remained married for 58 years until Bernie passed away in 2009 at the age of 81.

In addition to the historical facts and details which the filmmakers wanted to be sure were believable and technically accurate, it was also important that the characters’ relationships were authentic as well. “We wanted to be very specific and very clear with how things happened, and the scene in the film where Bernie and Miriam go on their first date is verbatim from the story,” says Whitaker. “Being able to get those nuances and truths makes it all the more interesting and allows us to present such unique individuals, and both actors were great at being able to run with it.”

Opening across the Philippines on March 02, “The Finest Hours” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures. How inclusive education benefits children with varying sets of needs

Curiosity runs wild in children. As they explore the world around them, they ask endless questions about people, places, situations and things they see. They have this sense of wonder that both rouses their imagination and engages all their five senses, eventually fueling their creativity.

At this point in their children’s journey of discovery, parents and guardians must seize the opportunity to point out life lessons and values that could help shape the little ones’ character and moral foundation.

However, in modern families where both parents juggle being professionals and maintaining a household, they can only do so much to explain ideas and concepts so kids can see life a bit more clearly.
