Living in the Philippines, which goes through months of monsoon every year, have taught us to be prepared when long days of rain is just around the corner. However, there are times that there are cracks and holes already. In situations like this, the smartest and most convenient solution is applying sealants to ensure that our most precious homes are safe from damages caused by leaks. Banish “unwanted guests” from your home on this season of festive gatherings

Deck your homes with all sorts of festive Yuletide décor as Christmas draws near. For most Filipino families, after all, the holidays are a time for merrymaking with family and kin, old and new friends, and even balikbayan flying in for their much-anticipated reunions.

But how do you welcome holiday guests and banish holiday pests? How do you spruce up your homes for the most cherished season of the year while keeping them 100-percent clean?

Water can damage even the toughest concrete—so waterproof it with Optimum Flex

Concrete is one of the toughest materials around—just look at all the tall buildings, stadiums, and other large structures we build with it. Concrete is made with several ingredients including cement, aggregates and reinforcing materials to make it very durable. However, water can damage even the toughest concrete; this leads to leaks and continuous deterioration. To prevent this, concrete must be protected by an effective waterproofing product.

Certain parts of a house, like roofdecks, balconies, and the upper floors, experience tremors or movement (and yes, the higher the structure, the more tremors and movement). Such parts of the house must be protected by a flexible waterproofing product that will not crack or otherwise be dislodged because of the movement or tremors. The best option for this is Optimum Flex.

Stop active leaks now with Waterplug

Nothing causes more panic than discovering an active leak in the house, like when rainwater starts leaking through cracks in the walls of the house, toilet and bath, or the basement. The leaks have to be plugged quickly or else there’s going to be a flood—not to mention damage to your house.

To plug and seal off these leaks quickly and effectively, it’s best to use a superior “cementitious” or cement-based waterproofing product that is quick and effective. For taking care of active leaks, Waterplug is your best choice.

Waterplug is a fast-setting, fast-drying hydraulic cement. Its advanced formulation allows you to use it even when the leak is ongoing. You can apply it even while water is streaming through a hole or a crack in cement or concrete because it can set even when wet. You can plug and seal that active leak really fast because Waterplug sets in just three minutes.

Don’t let ant size fool you. They are a health risk to your family.

Usually, we take ants for granted—but do you know that an ant infestation can cause major problems for our health and home? There are hundreds of ant species in the Philippines but households usually get invaded by three types of ants, in general: the black garden ant, the brown Pharaoh ant, and the tropical fire ant. Below are the threats from an ant infestation:

Bites, stings, and venom. Ant bites are not only painful but can cause swelling or even rashes. There are ants, like the tropical fire ant, that sting and inject venom. These are more dangerous; people who are allergic to ant venom may need emergency treatment. Depending on its severity, an allergic reaction to ant venom can be fatal.

Contamination and diseases. Here’s another reason we should not take an ant infestation for granted: ants can carry harmful bacteria that cause serious diseases. Some ants eat decomposing plants and animals. When the ants go from their feeding area into your house, they are potentially carrying harmful germs. Pharaoh ants are known carriers of the salmonella bacteria, which causes potentially fatal infections.

Summer’s here: are you prepared for a termite attack?

Summer is the best time to prepare your home defense against termite attacks. There’s still a lot of time before the termites start swarming. For maximum protection against termite infestation, it’s best to use Solignum Wood Preservative from the leading and trusted wood preservatives for more than 100 years.

The Solignum wood preservative is effective against termites, wood-boring insects, and fungi—three known pests that may cause irreversible and costly damage to our homes if they aren’t stopped in time.

ZAP away dengue-carrying mosquitoes this summer

Summer fun is just around the corner as classes wrap-up and both kids and parents look forward to the school holidays. This means trips to the beach, vacations in the provinces, or simply just more days playing outdoors to enjoy the carefree season. There’s one risk, however, that we should look out for this summer: dengue-carrying mosquitoes. We should take steps to prevent a potentially fatal dengue infection from ruining summer for us and our loved ones.

Dengue is already a year-round disease in the Philippines. And in the summer, we tend to spend more time outdoors, wear thinner clothing, and expose more skin because of the heat. This makes us an easier target for dengue-carrying mosquitoes that bite during the day (mosquito species A. albopictus) and during the night (A. aegypti). Both of these species of dengue-carrying mosquitoes are present outdoors and indoors, increasing the risk of dengue infection for everyone.

To have a dengue-free summer, especially for the kids, here are a few reminders on prevention:

Put screens over windows and install screen doors. Screens on windows and screen doors will keep dengue-carrying mosquitoes out while still allowing us to open the doors and windows of our home so it won’t be so hot on summer days and nights.
