“Leading Innovation in Philippine Regenerative Medicine” brings together experts from the Philippines, India and Malaysia to explore emerging therapies and advances in patient care”
The Philippine Society for Regenerative Medicine (PSRM) will hold its 1st Annual Convention on October 21–22, 2026, at Discovery Primea Makati, bringing together physicians, researchers and experts from the Philippines and abroad to examine emerging developments in regenerative medicine and their potential applications in healthcare.
Ahead of the two-day gathering, PSRM hosted a press conference on October 12, 2026, at Discovery Primea Makati, where Society leaders will provide an overview of the rapidly evolving field, discuss developments in regenerative medicine, and give members of the media a preview of the topics and expert discussions that will take place during the convention.
The convention, themed “Leading Innovation in Philippine Regenerative Medicine,” will feature discussions on emerging regenerative therapies, cellular science and their potential applications across different areas of medicine.
Leading the conversation are PSRM President Dr. Quincy P. Raya, MD, and PSRM Vice President Dr. Daryl Joel “Butch” Dumdum, MD, DFM, FSRM, who will share their perspectives on the developments shaping regenerative medicine today.
Exploring the science behind regenerative medicine
Regenerative medicine is an evolving field of healthcare that explores how cells, biological materials and other regenerative approaches may support the body’s natural processes of repair, restoration and healing.
As research continues to expand, regenerative medicine is being studied across a range of medical applications—from tissue repair and wound care to musculoskeletal, neurological and reproductive health. Advances in stem cell research, cell-based therapies and cell-free approaches are also contributing to a deeper understanding of how biological processes can potentially be harnessed for therapeutic applications.
At the convention, Dr. Raya will deliver a lecture titled “Emerging Regenerative Therapies for Autism, Parkinson’s Disease and Osteoarthritis: From Symptom Management to Targeted Cellular Repair.”
Her presentation will examine emerging research involving mesenchymal stem cell infusion and behavioral and EEG outcomes in autism spectrum disorder, ultrasound-guided intra-articular injection of extracellular matrix for knee osteoarthritis, and the potential role of the mesenchymal stem cell secretome in Parkinson’s disease.
The discussion will provide a closer look at how regenerative approaches are being investigated across different conditions and the continuing research needed to determine their appropriate clinical applications.
Meanwhile, Dr. Dumdum will present “Cells That Heal, Cells That Kill,” a discussion on the scientific convergence of mesenchymal stromal cells, natural killer cells and extracellular vesicles.
The lecture will explore how these cells and biological signals interact with tissue repair, immune regulation and immune surveillance, while also examining important considerations in regenerative medicine—including product identity, potency, safety, host response and responsible clinical translation.
Local and international experts to share insights
The two-day convention will bring together speakers and experts from the Philippines, India and Malaysia, creating a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration within the growing field of regenerative medicine.
Among the featured speakers is PSRM Vice President External Dr. Maria Romualdez Tan, who will discuss regenerative strategies and their applications in reproductive medicine.
PSRM founding board member Dr. Acel Pauline Ampong-Chicano, a reconstructive surgeon and wound care specialist, will discuss regenerative strategies for complex wounds, highlighting the potential role of regenerative approaches in supporting tissue repair and wound management.
International speaker Dr. Prabhu Mishra, PhD, Founder-President of the International Association of Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, will discuss PRP, PRF, BMAC, SVF, MSCs, exosomes and secretomes, and how these regenerative approaches may be considered across different indications from a research perspective.
