Building Ben: Filmmakers talk about using practical effects to bring Ben the chimpanzee to life in “PRIMATE,” now showing only in cinemas

In the new horror movie Primate, filmmakers used practical effects to create Ben the chimpanzee, who was brought to life by actor and movement specialist Miguel Torres Umba.

Filmmaker Johannes Roberts has built a reputation as a master of mayhem in films where killer sharks, zombies, demons, and slashers threaten the innocent and the guilty alike. His latest movie, Primate, promises to be the most shocking, bone-chilling tale he has told thus far, as a group of teens are terrorized when their pet chimp suddenly turns on them. Amping up the visceral terror with old-school, in-camera special effects and jaw-dropping surprises, Roberts is taking horror to new and ever-bloodier heights.

“The Walking Dead” and “Prison Break” actress Sarah Wayne Callies brings another yet indelible impression in the upcoming hair-raising horror movie “The Other Side of The Door,”  where she plays Maria, an inconsolable mother who lost her son in a tragic accident.

Set in mystical India and based on Indian folklore, “The Other Side of the Door” follows a  family who lives an idyllic existence abroad until a tragic accident takes the life of their young son. Maria, the mother, learns of an ancient ritual that will bring him back to say a final goodbye.  She travels to an ancient temple, where a door serves as a mysterious portal between two worlds.  However, when she disobeys a sacred warning about never opening that door, she upsets the balance between life and death.
