It’s their way of getting customers who have a spending range for entry level but has impressive features and design. This gives them a wider range of consumers who can also experience the Huawei ecosystem starting with a smartphone.
And this has been the tradition with the Huawei Y series which is dedicated to the young (in age or at heart). And it did focus on attributes that reflect what the youth would want and do with their smartphones. These are design, camera, multitasking, and gaming.
Design
So far we have come close to an ergonomic size and style of phones that both fits in our hands and looks good when being used in public. Huawei Y7a does meet the approval for its external look as well at the overall design.
It’s screen measures 6.67 inches with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 FHD+. Weighing around 200 grams is good even for hours long use. The best design feature is actually it’s back cover.
They do come in three colors: Crush Green, Midnight Black, and Bluish Gold. As a classic type of guy I would choose black but I also wanted to make an impression and would choose the green or gold version if I want to stand out. Now you don’t need to be shy as it looks at par with more expensive phones.
Camera
Now a standard when choosing a phone, camera function and quality is a key selling factor. The Huawei Y7a also makes this their strengths as they have 4 rear cameras (48MP main camera, 8MP wide-angle camera, 2MP macro lens, and 2MP depth lens). This gives it’s mobile photography a wider range of functions compared to competitors.
It makes it easy to take wide-angle shots, more crisp colors, bokeh effects, and high quality photos which new mobile photographers can practice before they can aspire for more sophisticated shots and equipment.
Another standard is the selfie camera (8MP) which is just right for front-facing shots and still above compared to other brands.
Multitasking
A phone is still made to do a lot of function with its apps, and in the past freezing and glitching has been the frustration. But now the Huawei Y7a comes forward with a powerful processor and large memory. Processing power is at 8GB of RAM and large storage of 64/128 GB ROM. The processor is the Kirin 710A octa-core which is optimized with the RAM and ROM capacity.
So far I have not experienced lag with the phone due to better processing time and large capacity thus maximizing use, even with memory-hogging apps running that can slow down the phone.
It runs on EMUI 10.1 which is based on Android 10and apps can be downloaded on App Gallery. And based on what I’ve seen there, many of the Android apps are available which keeps the same experience of Android running phones.
Gaming
As a heavy user of games on mobile, this is probably the hardest test for any phone as they require a huge amount of memory which average phone models would easily give up. To test this one, I would try some games from light ones to graphic-heavy games.
For starters I tried the classic Candy Crush which definitely passed and probably the app most installed when you send this phone as a gift to the older generation. But I also installed the popular open world game of Genshin Impact which all my old phones cannot handle.
The game really requires a lot of graphics due to the very detailed world, characters, and fights. And the Huawei Y7a was able to handle them and can keep up with the increasing memory demand as the game progresses.
The game also uses a lot of power but the phone has a capacity of 5000mAh which is incredible and useful especially for heavy phone users.
Our Verdict
The Huawei Y7a is probably the best phone in its range. It may not be a flagship phone but has a lot of features similar or at par with them to give you a taste of a high-end phone on a budget. Design is impressive with its curves and colors, the camera comes in varieties of function just right for photography needs. With a large memory and storage, lags are greatly reduced for more tasks to be done. And it also passed the graphic-heavy game which other phones can’t process.
Of course it cannot replace a flagship model because of hardware and materials but a great starting smartphone going beyond the basic functions. Definitely a smartphone you can afford and never worry about power, storage, and performance.
