Today, the tradition of Noche Buena goes beyond Christmas food staples and has become a whole celebration of feasting together with each family having their own unique spread of favorites alongside the usual Hamon and Queso de Bola, reconnecting with family – especially those who are far away the rest of the year, and the much-awaited gift-giving among loved ones. And despite almost two years in lockdown, Filipinos continue to embrace this festive tradition, even if it’s not always in person, thanks to widespread digitalization. From zoom reunions to sending the Christmas Aguinaldo through online banking and more, the present digital age presents an evolved version of Filipino Christmas celebrations while still being rooted in the same well-loved traditions.
