Carwajee’s ‘Asawa’ Echoes Cup of Joe’s Warmth

The origins of Carwajee members Richter Kent "RK" Velasco and Kenlei Serwelas are as compelling as their sound. Launching their debut single "Asawa" under Imperium Entertainment, the duo brings a raw, busker-honed energy to the OPM scene, discovered by award-winning filmmaker Daniel Palacio.

Both members of Carwajee hail from Lipa, Batangas, and their musicality draws immediate comparisons to the melodic warmth of Cup of Joe. In a blind listening session conducted by Imperium Entertainment, 8 out of 11 music critics specifically noted the sonic similarities between the two groups. Much like the Baguio-based hitmakers, the new duo leans into a blend of soulful acoustic arrangements and heartfelt storytelling. However, where Cup of Joe offers a breezy, retro-pop nostalgia, Carwajee introduces a cinematic folk-pop edge—a reflection of Palacio’s influence as their sole songwriter.

REVIEW: In The Grey

Guy Ritchie is back with a movie bringing action and thrill with In The Grey starring Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal. This is an interesting pair up of two leading men who have proven themselves in the action genre. Both have their unique charisma as their characters are experts in doing things almost harmless to being cold and brutal.

The story revolves with two extraction experts Sid and Bronco (Henry and Jake) who were employed by Rachel Wild (Gonzalez) to pressure the devious businessman Manny Salazar to pay a $1 Billion debt. The team also has to do outrageous things to get his attention and come into talks. The game becomes deadly with both playing tactics to outsmart and over power each other.

Wrap Artiste' Ditta Sandico Unravels Future Of Fashion

--- Renowned international “Wrap Artiste,” clothing designer, and indigenous fashion advocate Ditta Sandico reveals her 40-year journey in the fashion industry with the book, It’s A Wrap:  Unravelling the Future of Fashion.

Published by Far Eastern University, written by Francine Medina Marquez, and edited by Gayle Zialcita, It’s A Wrap draws inspiration from indigenous communities, most notably the Mangyan tribe in Mindoro, whose hardworking and skillful women and their craftsmanship are sometimes overlooked.

Ditta’s innovative use of her signature banaca (banana-abaca) wrap—woven fabrics sourced from a small fishing village in the island of Catanduanes— proves the importance and value of material culture research in understanding creativity and aesthetics.

Ditta narrates how a dream and vision changed the quiet lives of weaving communities and turned them into self-reliant hubs of social enterprise.  She hopes that her story will challenge and inspire the new generation of young clothing designers who will see the value of the Philippines’ indigenous crafts in nation-branding.
