Be a Play Champion! Unilab Foundation and partners invite everyone to be part of this year’s ‘Play Advocacy Week’

Every child should have access to play. Be it disaster or disease, children are exposed to different situations where they become vulnerable, and they are forced to put their childhood on hold. They may already be suffering from trauma and distress, and there is often no space or opportunity for them to play.

Unilab Foundation believes that play is essential to a child’s holistic development, which is why Play It Forward (PIF) was launched in 2012. All of PIF’s activities are designed to highlight play and its significance to the mental health of children, especially in vulnerable situations. Play It Forward uses therapeutic play to provide psychosocial support to pediatric patients and to children in post-disaster or disaster-prone communities.

This year, PIF takes play further with Play Advocacy Week 2018, a week-long campaign to encourage everyone to take play seriously and to explore how play can be integrated in today’s society. Happening from November 18 to 24, Play Advocacy Week 2018 aims to make the public recognize the importance of play in a child’s holistic development.

Award-Winning Play "THE NORMAL HEART" All Set To Open On July 3

AAI / The Necessary Theatre proudly announces the Asian premiere of " THE NORMAL HEART " - the 2011 Tony Award Winner for Best Revival of a Play about the early rise of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s. During this period, a deadly epidemic was decimating North America’s gay population, killing people in the thousands, devastating an entire generation and changing the way we think about sex forever.

Written by playwright and activist Larry Kramer, " THE NORMAL HEART " is a largely autobiographical play that puts a human face to an issue often mired in numbers, facts and statistics as seen through the eyes of writer/activist Ned Weeks, the openly gay founder of a prominent HIV advocacy group. He watches in horror as friends and lovers fall prey to a mysterious virus targeting his community.

ART IS A BANG: "Mulan" Set To Open November 20

Many would love to have a production that will both entertain kids and at the same time teach them life lessons. With movies more inclined to the grown ups, a theater production under Kids Acts gives a special treat with "Mulan".

The story of Mulan, a popular Chinese heroine, comes from an old Chinese folktale entitled “The Ballad of Mulan”. Originally a poem – Hua Mulan’s story has been adapted into a number of different versions over the years.

As a pre-X’mas offering to all schools, parents and children, Kids Acts Philippines proudly presents “ MULAN ” with script and lyrics by LUIGI NACARIO and music by EUGENE BELBIS.

BLAH BLAH BLOGS: Pride Tomatoes

I may not be a Palanca awardee, but I do take pride on my works. No matter how shitty it may look to other people, it is my work in progress. We we never born to write best selling books on the first piece we made, but it will be that piece that will lead to more works that will eventually turn their heads around. With a lot of competition around us, we have already a lot of great talents and beautiful works that brings pressure to the artistic rat race.

I do say that even the best writers started with poems and short stories that were never heard or published. But what led them to their masterpieces are those that refined their writing and imagination. I felt writing about this because of a personal dilemma in one of my work which was changed drastically and what surfaced is now an adaptation of the original work. I do understand that change will be necessary and things can turn from red to blue, but a complete overhaul in the story just made me very frustrated. I waited for bamboos to shoot up, rather a grape vine emerged. It looks better, but want bamboos to make a flute.

ART IS A BANG: Bonifacio Isang Sarswuela Kicks Off

After the nationwide success of Joe: A Filipino Rock'sical by the Philippine Stagers' Foundation (PSF), they kick off their new season with another homage to another Filipino hero who led the people to a national revolution that led to the independence of the Philippines. BONIFACIO ISANG SARSWELA is a timely musical about the life of the Supremo Gat Andres Bonifacio and the network of colorful characters that revolves with the brotherhood of the Katipunan.

With 2013 as the year for the 150th birth anniversary of Bonifacio, the play will bring awareness to who the supremo really is and how controversial was his life and his battles until his death. Written and directed by Palanca Awardee Atty. Vincent Tanada who plays the role of Andres Bonifacio, makes it a play to indeed watch out for not only for its historical value but also with the meticulous material in making it a Sarswela, which makes its more Filipino in nature.
