Christopher Pastrana's Appointment To PPA Questioned

With a new administration, the process of transfer of management requires an adjustment period, support of the department, and good faith. However there are still instances of which will cause confusion and power struggle. And that is allegedly what happened when incoming ES Vic Rodriguez announced the appointment of Christopher Pastrana as General Manager of the Philippine Ports Authority. The appointment reportedly caught the 2 other members of the screening committee, Naida Angping and Anton Lagdameo by surprise. More importantly, the appointment was announced at the same time as that of incoming DOTR Secretary Jimmy Bautista, even before the latter has even accepted.

Stellar Results Mark PHINMA Education’s 18 Years of Serving the Underserved

More than a decade ago, Elbert Kay Serrano wanted to be a nurse. His parents, a farmer and a canteen helper, didn’t have the resources to help him finish college. Elbert worked any job he could get -- a caregiver, a service crew at a fast food chain, a clerk, a helper-while taking up nursing at PHINMA Araullo University.

Elbert is just one of the thousands of underserved Filipinos whose chances of getting into college and finishing their degree is hampered by their circumstances. “Getting into college and graduating can often be prohibitively expensive for poor families,” said Dr. Chito B. Salazar, PHINMA Education President and CEO. “This barrier to entry is one of the many challenges that we are tackling because we believe that every Filipino deserves to have quality education.”

Owing to its mission to serve the underserved, PHINMA Education schools do not have entrance tests to make it easy for students to enroll and get the quality education they deserve.

Who knew that a couple’s love for dressing up as their favorite characters would make them the faces of marketing campaigns of pop culture brands?

Awie and Prince de Guzman, fiances in real life, have been the top of mind for a number of entertainment brands whenever they would need to tap cosplayers to bring to life their characters. Among these successful campaigns were Warner Bros.’ Shazam!, Netflix’s Stranger Things, The Witcher and Trese – the latter becoming a marketing hit during the pandemic in 2021.

“We went viral and made a lot of noise in the media during that time,” Awie recalls when she cosplayed the main character Alexandra Trese for Netflix. “I felt a lot of pressure before deciding to cosplay her because the komiks have been around for many years and the Trese community is very protective of their fandom! I read the komiks so I can properly portray Trese, and I’m happy that the creators noticed my work too.”

Cambodian Music Superstar and Asian breakthrough artist, VannDa, makes his long awaited comeback with new album “SKULL 2 (SEASON 1)”

The album, which features focus track ”Young Man” with Thailand’s OG Bobby, is now available on DSP services. The 15 track album was released on YouTube last Sunday, July 3rd with translations in English and Thai.

Cambodian superstar VannDa returns with his sophomore album “SKULL 2 (Season 1)” showcasing his immense growth as an artist since his debut, $KULLTHEALBUM (2020). Coming off his meteoric rise in 2021 following hits “Time to Rise” featuring Master Kong Nay, “Catch Me If You Can”, and “Solo Again”, the Southeast Asian ‘King of Flows’ collaborates with fellow top-notch Cambodian producers to venture into multiple new genres while still delivering the heavy hip hop sound and sharp lyrical wit that made him famous across the world.

Bringing the focus track to the spotlight is “Young Man”, a certified head banger where VannDa and Thailand’s OG Bobby (Hypetrain) shine their skillful flows rapping about the journey of rising to the top. Defined by bouncy drums filled with negative space for the two rappers to flow in and out of, “Young Man” is a playful rebuke to haters that could be played on massive stages for dancing fans or as that perfect bop for a long car ride.
