The Philippines joins worldwide Scotch celebration #LoveScotch

Diageo leads global movement of Scotch whisky appreciation

Scotch is the world’s favorite whisky, bringing to life centuries of craftsmanship with its impeccable and timeless flavor. From its humble beginnings in the terrains of Scotland, Scotch is now considered the universal drink for celebrations around the world, ever-present in the lives of those who honor their unique thirst for life.

World Whisky Day, happening on May 21, is a global celebration that invites everyone to try a dram and celebrate the ‘water of life’. Diageo strengthens this love for the drink through #LoveScotch – a global movement that celebrates the world’s love affair with Scotch and ignites a passion amongst a new generation of whisky drinkers.

“One’s relationship with Scotch is more than just an infatuation – it is the kind of love that is built on a storied history, fostered over hundreds of years,” says Diageo Philippines’ General Manager Jon Good. “For us at Diageo, Scotch goes beyond our love for our products; it is a toast to artisanship, culture, and heritage. This is why we are leading #LoveScotch in time for World Whisky Day– we want to fuel this passion, to laud the centuries of craftsmanship that goes behind this unique and exceptional liquid, and of course, for everyone to enjoy a dram of Scotch on that day.”

The first day of the #LoveScotch celebration in the Philippines consists of a Master Class with Diageo’s Master of Whisky, Ewan Gunn. Based in Inverness, Scotland, Gunn has been in the industry for 16 years, teaching people all over the world the best way to appreciate whisky.
“We have seen the Philippines’ amazing love for Scotch, and we want to elevate this further by educating Scotch drinkers on the finer points of drinking,” says Gunn. “Basically, if the way you drink Scotch makes you happy and you’re enjoying it, then you know that you’re consuming it the right way for yourself. But with #LoveScotch, we will heighten the Philippines’ experience: we want to let Filipinos know what goes behind their drink and how they can best take it.”

Gathering food and Scotch enthusiasts in Desiderata Lounge, Gunn held a nosing and tasting session for four Scotch whiskies: Johnnie Walker Black Label, Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve, The Singleton of Glen Ord 12 Year Old and The Singleton of Glen Ord Signature. Gunn noted the nose, palate, and finish for each of the four Scotch whiskies, as well as their perfect serves.

Gunn then proceeded to food pairings. The Master of Whisky noted which types of food best pair with the flavors of the four Scotch whiskies, with dishes prepared by Desiderata Lounge’s head chef Borja Duran. “When you understand the palate of your drink, then you can find the food to best go along with it,” Gunn noted. “This makes your drinking experience richer and, consequently, gives you all the more reason to appreciate Scotch wherever, whenever.”

Diageo invites everyone to join the global movement on World Whisky Day. On May 21, Filipinos are encouraged to have a dram of Johnnie Walker Black Label, Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve, The Singleton of Glen Ord 12 Year Old or The Singleton of Glen Ord Signature, and post a #LoveScotch selfie with their drink. Under the #LoveScotch tag, millions of Scotch lovers on World Whisky Day will

come together to toast to drinking better and the people whom they share a drink with.
