GCash disburses P2.5B cash loans in 10 months

Leading e-wallet platform GCash has handed out more than P2.5 billion in cash loans in just 10 months since the launch of GLoan, reflecting the significant demand for affordable and fair lending rates among Filipinos.

Offering low and easy payment schemes, GLoan allows pre-qualified users to take loans from P1,000 to P50,000.  The amount is payable in five, nine or 12 months, with no other requirements needed. GLoan uses the in-house trust platform GScore to check a borrower’s ability to pay.

“We want to make lending more accessible to consumers to prevent them from becoming victims of informal lenders who usually charge predatory rates.  We want Filipinos, especially the unbanked, to have access to funds whenever they need it,” said Martha Sazon, GCash President and CEO.

Meanwhile, GCash’s “buy now, pay later” proposition GGives has disbursed P345 million from December 2021 to May 2022 with 85,000 merchants since its accessible installment offer was introduced.

A popular financing option among Filipinos, “buy now, pay later” lets consumers make immediate purchases without cash or credit card.

Globe 5G network logs over 2M devices in Q1 2022

Globe has logged over two million devices in its 5G network as of end-March this year, ahead of target, showing that many customers are already enjoying the higher speed, lower latency, and more reliable data service that the new technology brings.

At least 96% of the National Capital Region and 85% of key cities in Visayas and Mindanao now have Globe 5G outdoor coverage.   The digital solutions platform has also allocated a large portion of the P89 billion in capital expenditures this year to roll out more 5G sites and in-building solutions, upgrade more cell towers to 4G LTE, add more 4G cell sites, and lay down more fiber to the home lines.

This buildup is part of Globe’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which highlights how infrastructure and innovation are key in driving economic growth and development under SDG No. 9.

“We anticipate higher 5G device penetration among our customers this year with the continuous expansion of 5G coverage in the country and the release of more affordable handsets,” said Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO.

Mobile service providers must scale up to meet subscriber growth, continued digital shift

Mobile operators must continue to expand their network capacity to support rising demand for mobile connectivity and match customers’ increasing reliance on digital services. According to international mobile industry organization GSMA, subscriber growth will persist within the next three years along with an increase in mobile services’ contribution to the global economy.

In its recently published The Mobile Economy 2022 Report, GSMA projected that there will be nearly 400 million new mobile subscribers by 2025, 148 million of whom will come from the Asia Pacific region. The group added that “mobile data will more than triple in most regions over the next six years, driven by increasing smartphone adoption and video usage.”

GSMA previously reported that over 333 million people from across the Asia Pacific region will start to use mobile internet for the first time by 2025. This will take the penetration rate to 52% of the region’s total population.

Globe At Home GFiber: An essential tool for WFH and online class setups

As home Internet has become the lifeblood of every household through the pandemic, people are now more sensitive to internet downtime and speed to avoid disruptions to work and schooling.

Because of the higher demand for a more reliable and faster broadband connection, Globe At Home had to innovate and deliver on the expectations to keep customers satisfied.  It increased high-speed fiber capacity and laid down 1.4 million Fiber-to-the-Home lines in 2021 alone.

From Globe At Home’s efforts came GFiber, which has the speed, service, and offers to handle the changing needs of household members.  Through GFiber, parents can hold work meetings, while children can attend their online classes powered by fast Internet connection.

“We believe that GFiber will be pivotal for Globe At Home as many of our customers are looking for fiber for their internet requirements. GFiber is ideal for handling our customers' elevated digital lifestyle at home,” said Barbie Dapul, Globe At Home Vice President for Marketing.

Globe ramps up 5G rollout in areas not reached by broadband

Leading digital solutions provider Globe is ramping up the rollout of 5G sites in areas not reached by fixed internet or broadband to further improve the Digital Quality of Life (DQL) in the Philippines.

This was shared by Rina Azcuna-Siongco, Head of Get Entertained Tribe at Globe during the OTT (Over the Top) Summit 2022 organized by the Asia Video Industry Association (AVIA).  Speaking on the topic “How will 5G Change the Game for Asian Streaming Services?” she said the deployment of 5G technology complements Globe’s broadband rollout to deliver #1stWorldNetwork to customers.

“One of the ways we've used 5G is for areas where it's a bit more challenging to deploy fixed internet or broadband.  We need to do it through 5G instead. That way, we are able to deliver things like better video streaming and gaming experiences,” Siongco said.

Globe bags Opensignal’s Excellent and Core Consistent Quality awards

Independent global standard Opensignal has recognized Globe for delivering the most consistent mobile quality in the Philippines.  Globe bested its global peers in the Excellent and Core Consistent Quality categories of Opensignal’s Mobile Experience Awards*.

The digital solutions platform bagged the Excellent Consistent Quality award with 51.6 percent or 7.8 percentage points higher than the nearest competitor, according to Opensignal’s April 2022 Mobile Network Experience Report for the Philippines.  The report is based on data collected from Jan. 1 to March 31 this year.

“Globe is the outright winner of the Excellent Consistent Quality award, as the highest proportion of users’ tests met the minimum recommended performance thresholds to watch HD video, complete group video conference calls, and play games on its network,” Opensignal said.

Likewise, Globe topped in Core Consistent Quality with 74.6 percent, beating the nearest competitor by 12.8 percentage points. Core Consistent Quality uses thresholds for less demanding applications.

“Our measures of consistent quality quantify how often users’ experience on a network was sufficient to support common applications’ requirements,” Opensignal said.

Globe users also had the best experience when streaming video over 5G networks.  The company emerged as the winner of the 5G Video Experience Award with 71.2 points.

Opensignal’s 5G Video Experience quantifies the quality of mobile video streamed when connected to 5G. It includes picture quality, video loading time, and stall rate, with the perceived video experience as reported by the users.

As of February, Globe has over 1.62 million devices registered on its 5G network. In terms of 5G outdoor coverage, it now covers 96 percent of Metro Manila and 84 percent of key cities in Visayas and Mindanao.

“We are glad to be recognized by Opensignal for the consistency of our network performance.  Globe has been focusing on improving its overall quality of service, not only Internet speed.  Today we serve our customers a diverse range of digital services and content delivered through our network.  These are all designed to meet the evolving digital lifestyle of our customers and enrich their lives,” said Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO.

The company continues to enhance its network by earmarking a large portion of the P89 billion for its capital expenditures this year.  It intends to build new cell sites, upgrade existing sites to 4G/LTE, accelerate the rollout of 5G connectivity, and ramp up the fiberization of Filipino homes nationwide.

Globe intensifies drive vs piracy as PH posts highest content piracy rate in Asia

Globe has further intensified its drive against illegal streaming and downloading of content as the Philippines, together with Vietnam and Malaysia, again topped the list of Asian countries with the highest piracy rates.

Piracy has been a lingering problem around the world, posing a danger to the viability of businesses and the livelihood of content creators, and also exposing users to malware and other online threats.

“The ill-effects of online piracy cannot be underestimated. Globe continues to ramp up initiatives to mitigate, if not fully stop piracy, and make a positive societal impact.  We also work with coalitions and partners like the Asia Video Industry Association (AVIA) and the IPOPHL to help address these challenges,” said Anton Bonifacio, Globe Chief Information Security Officer.

Globe warns public vs phishing attacks amid Russia-Ukraine conflict

Globe is urging customers to remain vigilant amid an uptick in phishing attacks linked to the Russia-Ukraine conflict in recent weeks.

While phishing campaigns recently detected by Google’s Threat Analysis Group (TAG) have primarily targeted Ukraine and its European allies, Globe warned that these threats may easily be exploited and spread across the Asian region.

“We all need to watch out for certain types of emails or content that will try to lure us into sharing our information. These may contain topics such as humanitarian aid-themed scams and online petitions for Ukraine,” said Anton Bonifacio, Globe’s Chief Information Security Officer.

He said other content may also pretend to share news and information about the ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis, or offer tips related to the crisis’ impact, such as where to get the lowest gas prices in your area.

Globe wins Ookla® ’s Best 5G Video Experience Award in PH

Globe has bagged Ookla® ’s Best 5G Video Experience Award[1] in the Philippines, proving that its customers are already reaping the fruits of the company’s massive network investment.

The Video Awards was launched by the network intelligence and connectivity insights global leader early this year based on local mobile networks' performance in the third and fourth quarters of 2021.

To compute the video score of the different mobile networks, Ookla weighed the sum of multiple video metrics.  It includes the proportion of tests that failed to start, time to load the first frame of video playback, quality of video loaded, the proportion of users who experienced at least one stall in video loading or playback, and the rebuffering ratio of users who experienced a stall.

International Happiness Day: Spread happiness with Globe

The last few weeks have seen Filipinos easing into the new normal, with COVID-19 cases on a steady decline. Workers are back in their offices. Families are free to go out to weekend lunches. Friends are reuniting in sorely missed night outs. People are walking their dogs in parks.

Even with masks still on when they go out, there is no denying the smiles on Filipinos’ faces as they experience, for the first time in two years, a sense of normalcy after the challenging and limiting times of the pandemic.

As we mark International Happiness Day somehow free from the shroud of a prolonged pandemic, the Globe Group is here to help Filipinos spread cheer even better. How? Here are just a few ways.

Cloud Contact Center Solutions to Revolutionize Customer Service

To keep up with an increased demand for timely, efficient, and effective customer service, enterprises are now tapping contact-center-as-a-service (CCaaS) solutions. Through this cloud-based method of managing customer relationships, businesses can use a cloud contact center provider’s software instead of maintaining their own costly IT servers and manpower.

At the height of the pandemic, many Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies abroad have  moved to a cloud-based, work-from-home model. With employees working remotely, businesses had to look for ways to deploy applications that enable secure, cost-efficient, and productive work outside office premises. This accelerated the adoption of cloud-based solutions which, in turn, facilitates customer service across multiple channels such as voice, SMS, email, and even social media.
