World Vision keeps children’s dreams alive thru Give Hope campaign

Since the start of this year, the Philippines has been facing one great hurdle after another. Despite the gravity, Filipinos have been known to deal with problems head on.

It has been three months since the government has declared community quarantine in most cities and provinces in the Philippines. As the country continues to fight its battle against COVID-19, issues increase as more sectors of society become affected by this health crisis. One of the most pressing issues now is how to continue the learning and development of the children and youth at a time of a pandemic.

World Vision and partners respond to emergency needs of quake survivors

Following three succeeding earthquakes that hit southern Mindanao last month, World Vision launched its relief operations to help the affected families of Kidapawan City, Makilala, and Tulunan in Northern Cotabato.

To complement the efforts of the local government, World Vision provided non-food items such as hygiene kits (bath and laundry soaps, toothbrushes and toothpastes, sanitary packs, nail cutter, undergarments and malong or tube skirt), jerry cans, mosquito net, mats, and blankets, and emergency shelter kits (tarp and rope) among others.

The child-focused organization’s latest project, the Social Innovation Challenge, is allowing innovators all over the country the opportunity to compete for seed capital to fund ideas that address obstacles faced by Filipino communities.

For this year’s edition of the challenge, World Vision is putting the focus on two community problems: (Challenge #1) climate change effects on soil that hurt the livelihood of almost 1,000 farming households in Sogod, Cebu¸ a small upland barangay where almost 50% of the population depends on agriculture; and (Challenge #2) 500 out-of-school youth in Brgy. Bucana, Davao City due to their families' lack of sustainable livelihood.

And The 2013 Elan Award Goes To...

Well, lets give you a little breather for that moment to guess among the 12 finalist landed on the top spot in each category of the 2013 Elan Awards by McJim Classic Leather search for the modern Filipino Gentleman. Chivalry and Class is not dead with the roster of 12 gentlemen who are part of different sectors of society and are celebrities and well-respected by their peers and the public.

The search was not easy and quick, from the nomination, to the selection via a panel of judges, to the online voting that has triggered a lot of hits for the McJim Classic Leather facebook page, is a meticulous process so that it would be transparent who will be the "Ultimate Filipino Gentleman."

As the voting would take the longest duration, there has been changes in rankings and also support from fans of the 12 contenders. But what is also interesting about this award would be the prizes the winner will receive.

Now, I won't keep you waiting, as we now reveal the winner...

PAGTUTULUNGAN.ORG: Bloggers' Meet Up With World Vision Philippines

Many people would think that helping others requires one to be materially blessed and stable. That is how many people see the world right now. And it was a great pleasure to be invited to a great organization that sets its eyes on promoting a holistic approach in helping poor communities especially the children who needs education and nutrition.

World Vision actively promotes education to underprivileged children and  malnourished kids. And aside from those they also provide sustainable livelihood and spiritual support. In the Bloggers' meet last Jan 26, I got to know more about world vision aside from its booths found in malls.

Though it is an international organization, they make sure that they provide programs that fit Filipino needs. Also its not that hard to sponsor a child which is basically 20 pesos a day! I do want to have a sponsored child soon when I have a stable income so I can be consistent virtual parent which can follow the footsteps of community heroes like Efren Penaflorida, who is a World Vision sponsored child back then.
They have reached 33 provinces and 44 cities, but the mission does not stop there because there are still a lot of people and places needing help to survive  but also to help themselves out of poverty and despair.

COUNT ME IN! Help World Vision Philippines to Get 11,000 Kids to School!

The School year has started yet many of Filipino children are deprived of the right to education because of poverty. This are the main reasons why there are still a lot of poor people in the country. I seeks to protect vulnerable people amid difficult circumstances by providing emergency relief such as food, water, shelter, medicine, clothing, and disaster preparedness trainings.

Raising Public Awareness and Advocating for Justice.

By increasing understanding of poverty and injustice, World Vision seeks to promote public involvement and government policies that alleviate poverty. Our BeginningsWorld Vision was founded by American Dr. Bob Pierce in 1950 following his life-changing trips to China and Korea. Dr. Pierce was awfully moved by the impact of the war on children. He set up orphanages to care for those who were abandoned or whose parents had died. By the 1960s this work had expanded to meet the needs of refugees in Indochina and the survivors of disasters in Bangladesh and Africa. Eventually, Child Sponsorship was started to provide long-term funding assistance to help poor children worldwide.Over the decades World Vision’s approach has shifted from welfare provision to collaboration, partnering with communities and individuals to seek solutions to tackle poverty.

Their Philosophy

As a non-denominational Christian oragnization, World Vision aims to share and demonstrate the love and compassion that Jesus Christ extended to all people, especially to children, particularly to those living in poverty or suffering from oppression and injustice.
