Groove to Barbie the Album at this exclusive Dance Blowout Party!

Much anticipation has surrounded Barbie the Movie, and it’s no secret that the same can be said about its soundtrack. The songs featured throughout the film have been revealed one by one, from superstar Dua Lipa’s electrifying “Dance the Night” to rap queens Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World,” which is an iconic take on Aqua’s song “Barbie Girl.”

Another exciting addition to the Barbie the Album is the high-energy track from K-Pop group FIFTY FIFTY “Barbie Dreams,” which also features Atlanta bred rapper Kaliii. The track uses an interpolation of Janet Jackson’s “Together Again,” adding a hint of nostalgic appeal.

With such a diverse and talented set of artists, it’s no wonder that even its soundtrack is adding to the film’s hype. Luckily, Filipino fans who are excited to listen to the entire Barbie the Album are in for a treat – Warner Music Philippines is partnering with the Studio Dance Club for an exclusive album pre-release Dance Blowout Party! This event is set to happen on July 20th, 2023, 7 PM, a day ahead of Barbie’s world premiere.

Nicole Laurel Set To Launch 'Bawal'

“Minsan nababaliw,

Kadalasan ay lasing

Ayaw tanggapin

Na hindi ka nga akin.”

So, what’s it all worth?— does the poisoned vine indeed breed finer wine? — is this thing we “love” even worth fighting for? Perhaps if it was so “bawal” then maybe it wasn’t borne out of love at all…

Bakit nga ba masarap kapag bawal?

It had been a little while since noted multi-talented Nicole Laurel got back in the recording cycle. She didn’t stop writing new songs. In fact, there are dozens in progress. For this upcoming single 'BAWAL,' she collaborated with a co-musician she had met nearly 9 years ago but never really had the opportunity to write with— guitarist/ multi-instrumentalist Gabe Dandan. During an impromptu jam, he put down the guitar and began playing keys. Nicole began humminhinstantaneous melody and lyrics— the initial songwriting for “Bawal” was done in about 30 minutes.

Nicole Laurel's New Song "Christmas Without You" Debuts This November

Multi-talented artist  NICOLE LAUREL is all set to release her new song 'CHRISTMAS WITHOUT YOU'  this coming November 26 in Spotify.

“Christmas Without You”  is a prequel of sorts to last year’s original composition  “See You This Christmas.” This year’s composition describes a couple saying their sweet goodbyes and exchanging well wishes as one of them needs to leave to work abroad to support their loved one.

The characters continue to find ways to remain  hopeful during the holiday season, even if they are separated from one another. It is through the little holiday rituals they once shared, that the memory of one another comes alive, and they are renewed by the thought of  being together again in due time.

Warner Music Philippines Partners with One Tree Planted to Celebrate Coldplay’s “Higher Power”

To celebrate the much-anticipated release of Coldplay’s new single, “Higher Power”, Warner Music Philippines partnered with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization that focuses on global reforestation, to plant trees across the globe and help restore forests.

Inspired by the British rock band’s commitment to being climate positive and eco-conscious, the Warner Music Philippines team planted 600 trees in forests in the Philippines in behalf of the label’s friends in the media and the press as it announced the new single. Tree recipients were then sent personalized digital planting certificates that they can share online. The reforestation initiative replaced traditional press kits for the campaign and became the label’s way to strengthen the band’s pledge to focus on sustainability.

PhilPop announces finalists from Visayas and Mindanao clusters

PhilPop, the country's premier songwriting competition, has officially unveiled its top 6 finalists from the Visayas and Mindanao cluster. With #MusicBreakingBorders as its newest tagline, the music institution sets its sights in promoting top-notch Filipino compositions on a scale that’s never been done before: by going global and forging regional ties.

Carefully handpicked from thousands of submissions, the first batch of finalists from PhilPop Songwriting Festival 2020 recently graced the online media presentation last August 24, 2020 (Wednesday).

In no particular order, the finalists from the Vis-Min cluster include:

  • Jerika Teodorico – “Ayaw Na Lang” (Cebu City, Cebu)
  • Noah Alejandre and Reanne Borela – “Suyo” (Ormoc City, Leyte)
  • Michael Catarina – “Hinungdan” (Cebu City, Cebu)

  • John Cadeliña  – “Akong Bililhon”(Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur)
  • Christian Chiu – “Kasadya” (Corandal City, South Cotabato)
  • Sherwin Fugoso – “Pahuway” (Jabonga, Agusan del Norte)

According to PhilPop Executive Director Dinah Remolacio, the entries underwent multiple rounds of selection process until Top 3 per clusters were handpicked. “We wanted our process to be inclusive so the decision making involved local and international representatives from Warner Music, representatives from our regional partner for each cluster, and representatives from PhilPop,” Remolacio shares in a statement.

The selection committee is headed by Festival Chair and PhilPop Musicfest National Artist Ryan Cayabyab, as well as Foundation Board Members, adjudicators, partners, and Warner Music Philippines Executives such as PhilPop Musicfest Foundation President Victorico P. Vargas, Festival Co-Chair and PhilPop Musicfest Foundation Board Member Noel Cabangon, PhilPop Musicfest Foundation Executive Director Dinah A. Remolacio, PhilPop Musicfest Foundation Lead Adjudicators Jungee Marcelo and Trina Belamide, Warner Music Philippines Managing Director Ian Monsod, MinPop Musicfest Director and Mindanao Cluster Partner Jeremy Sarmiento, and Kadasig Founder and Visayas Cluster Partner Jude Gitamondoc.

PhilPop is currently wrapping up its adjudication process for the remaining clusters namely: North Luzon, South Luzon, and Metro Manila. The finalists representing the remaining regions will be announced next month.

In terms of the selection of finalists from the Mindanao Cluster, MinPop Musicfest Director Jeremy Sarmiento takes pride of how the top three finalists took inspiration from various sources, yet their songs sounded truly ‘Mindanaoan’ in terms of cultural context and identity. Sarmiento also cited the importance of regional representation, and how this platform helps in introducing different stories and diverse experiences through music. “There's no better way to achieve that than giving an opportunity to those in the regions to tell their own stories. Representation provides a reflection of each of their languages, ideals, feelings and that's what we ultimately need to understand each other better, the uniqueness of the Filipinos, expressed through songs.”

Kadasig Founder and Visayas Cluster Partner Jude Gitamondoc is also optimistic about their official picks for the Visayas cluster, citing diversity and universal appeal as two of main reasons that make these songs a standout in the competition. “I think the songs chosen to represent the Visayas are a great representation of the region,” says Gitamondoc. “We have an electronic-infused track, another one that's soulful, and another that's folksy. That pretty much shows how varied the musicality is in the Visayas. We are at the center of the country. We are a melting pot of cultures, influences, and ideas.”

PhilPop Songwriting Festival 2020 is an initiative of the PhilPop Music Foundation, chaired by Mr. Manny V. Pangilinan. This year's PhilPop is co-presented by SMART, MERALCO, and MAYNILAD, with official partners, Warner Music Philippines, Kadasig, and MinPop.
