REEL DEAL: Academy Award-Winner Cate Blanchett Lends Voice In “HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2”

This year’s Academy Award-Winner for Best Actress, Cate Blanchett, joins the family of Vikings and dragons in “How To Train Your Dragon 2.”

Playing opposite the voices of the returning cast along with Gerard Butler, Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera and Jonah Hill, Blanchett lends voice to Valka, the long-lost mother of Hiccup.  Upon meeting her, Hiccup and dad Stoick (Butler) find out that she has been living with and protecting the dragons in a hidden haven. 

All grown up, as Hiccup searches for answers and gets deeper into the mystery of dragons surfacing and missing, it’s not long before he and Toothless come face-to-face with the dragon rider, who turns out to be someone Hiccup thought he would never meet: his mother. Taken by a dragon when Hiccup was just a baby, she’s been missing for 20 years and presumed dead by the villagers of Berk.

MUSIC LYF: Universal Records produces PhilPop 2014 album

Universal Records first partnered with the Philippine Popular Music Festival (PhilPop) for the production of the festival’s 2013 commemorative album. The universal appeal of Hiccup and Toothless has touched the hearts of many people round the globe when the first “How To Train Your Dragon” soared successfully into theatres last 2010 and nabbed two Academy Award nominations for Best Animated Feature and Original Score. 

The first film, based on the children’s books written by British author Cressida Cowell, introduced to audiences the gangly teenage Viking Hiccup, whose world is flipped upside down when he encounters and befriends an injured dragon he names Toothless. 

REEL DEAL: The Generations Parents: Laura Dern and Sam Trammell In “THE FAULT IN OUR STARS”

Typifying this generation’s parents are Laura Dern and Sam Trammell in the book-to-film adaptation of “The Fault In Our Stars” from author John Green and director Josh Boone.

The film follows Hazel(Shailene Woodley) and Gus (Ansel Elgort) as their relationship develops and they set off on a surprising and exciting journey to Amsterdam. Laura Dern, who plays Frannie, Hazel Grace Lancaster’s mother in the film. “What I love about the story is that it is not about cancer; it is about falling in love and being true to who you are, not apologizing for yourself,” says Dern.“It is about believing in the moment and really honoring the joy of the moment, no matter how bad everything might look. And those are themes we all need today.”

The Simpsons Artist Joins iAcademy As Creative Director

iACADEMY, one of the country’s leading schools in computing, business  and design named Dane Romley as Creative Director. 

Romley is a graduate of Animation from Woodbury University in Burbank California. He was the digital rough poser and supervisor of Topdraw animation studios and he is most known for his contributions in the award winning cartoon, The Simpsons. 

For five years, Romley served as the character layout artist and designer of The Simpsons Television show and The Simpsons Movie. He created layouts including rough backgrounds and camera movements along with character and object animation. He also provided character designs for The Springfield Up and Tree House of Horror XVII. 

'The Colors Of My Life Celia Diaz Laurel - Painter' Coffee Table Book To Be Launched June 18

Celia Diaz Laurel is a name synonymous to world of arts.

By virtue of imagination, talent or skill to create works of aesthetic value, especially in the field of fine arts, Celia Diaz Laurel has gained the reputation for being a prolific stage actress, painter, writer, poetess, set and costume designer for more than six decades.

Now at 86 years of age, Celia Diaz Laurel has a record feat of chalking up hundreds of stage plays and musicals, painting a treasure trove of artworks on different subjects, and writing / publishing books.

And yet, Celia Diaz-Laurel is still up and about to launch her latest project which is a coffee table book aptly titled ‘The Colors of My Life Celia Diaz Laurel – Painter’ on June 18 – Wednesday 4 p.m. at the Executive House located at Maramag St. corner Tavera St., Area 14, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City.
