REVIEW: No Other Choice (어쩔수가없다) - Who Will Make The Chop?

This black comedy thriller film starring Lee Byung-hun directed by Park Chan-wook is South Korea’s entry for Best International Feature Film for the 98th Academy Awards and brings an interesting vibe as an adaptation of the novel “The Axe” by Donald Westlake.

It deals with competition for a job which drives one to do the extremes to secure the spot. And it seems that the perks of the position does motivate Man-soo (Byung-hun) to get creative in eliminating the competition. This adaptation does work well with the current working culture and changes which is also attached with the lifestyle they dream of and how they cling to it very deeply.

Beko and DepEd TAPAT: Empowering the Filipino youth for a brighter future ahead

Continuing to move towards their commitment to uplifting the Filipino community, Beko, from the no. 1 large home appliance company in Europe, has partnered with the Department of Education - Division of Taguig City and Pateros to provide essential home appliances to nine selected public schools.

This initiative, a significant part of Beko’s corporate social responsibility efforts, aims to enhance daily operations within schools by providing reliable equipment for practical home economics lessons, including cookery courses, and ultimately supporting students, teachers, and the entire academic community.

The brand donated nine sets of appliances, each comprising a refrigerator, a washing machine, and a cooking range, to selected elementary, junior high, and senior high schools within the Taguig area, such as the Sta. Ana Elementary School, Ciriaco P. Tinga Elementary School, Enlisted Men's Signal Village Elementary School, Taguig Integrated School, Tibagan High School, Kapitan Jose Cardones Integrated School, Pitogo High School, Fort Bonifacio High School, and Kapitan Eddie T. Reyes Integrated School.

By supporting the schools, Beko recognizes the profound link between student success and the well-being of their homes and communities, realizing that the foundation of a good education starts with a supportive environment.

During the turnover ceremony, Dyeun Zapanta, Beko’s Marketing Head, emphasized the core goal of the partnership: “We're not just here to promote our products and generate sales, but we are also here to help the Filipino consumer in attaining a sustainable life. Our mission really is to empower our new generation. To empower them, we need to educate and train them. We hope that this little act of giving back to the community will go as far as inspiring our young learners to discover the latest technology and innovations in home appliances that will redefine their views on the value and importance of learning simple household chores because it will equip them to face daily life challenges. So, we hope that this donation will really help educate our young generation and empower them to become prepared in life and shape them professionally in the future .”

Meanwhile, the schools expressed their gratitude for the donation, affirming that it is timely as they are currently improving their program offerings in technical and livelihood education.

“Your donation, Beko Philippines, to nine public schools in Taguig and Pateros is a timely effort in our goal of improving our TLE and TVL programs,” shared Dr. Alixander Haban Escote, Principal of Fort Bonifacio High School. “In fact, Fort Bonifacio High School is one of the few schools that offers the TLE-TVL program in the senior high school...so, your donation of the refrigerator, washing machine, and gas range will really improve our facilities, particularly so that the division of the Taguig and Pateros is preparing in hosting the National Tec-Voc Day this school year,” he added.

“We are grateful that we have been selected for this initiative. Rest assured that our learners will really use these, especially those schools offering cookery courses. We will also give you updates on how we will make use of these (appliances) to ensure that our learners will learn (the necessary) skills,” shared Dr. Cynthia Ayles, CESO VI, School Division Superintendent of the Department of Education - Division of Taguig City and Pateros.

Beko's generous contribution is a vital step towards enriching the quality of education for the students. By providing appliances that foster life skills, Beko is not only supporting academic growth but also helping students be ready for life beyond the classroom.
