Why Everybody Loves Cosmetics in Korea

Famous in Korea, aside from the barbecue’s, korea novels and K Pop, above all is cosmetics.

Korean products are significantly cheaper than their western counterparts because manufacturing costs are lower in Korea. There are many skilled Filipinos also working in this tiger country and enjoying their stay. There is also stiff competition between companies to offer the “best for less”.

Beauty-obsessed Koreans are always on the lookout for the next “Big Thing” in skincare. Same as Filipinos who have an extra income to provide good skincare for them, some will use the Korean products as it’s known for quality and effectiveness.

Singapore-South Korea film 'Ajoomma' starring Kang Hyung Suk, Yeo Jin Goo coming to PH cinemas on March 15

TBA Studios has acquired exclusive Philippine theatrical distribution rights to the lighthearted family drama “Ajoomma”, which will be released on March 15.

Directed by Singaporean filmmaker, He Shuming, his feature debut film tells the story of a middle-aged, Korean-drama-obsessed widow from Singapore who travels out of the country for the first time to Seoul, and ends up getting lost. Her journey becomes an unexpected road of self-discovery, as she comes to terms with the life she truly wants for herself, beyond her roles of daughter, wife, and mother.

He shared that the story is inspired by his own mother’s fascination with Korean dramas. “While the premise seems to be timely given the popularity of Korean pop culture sweeping through all of Asia and beyond, it merely serves as an undertone for the film, which is about a middle-aged Singaporean woman learning to navigate life beyond her duties as a mother, a housewife, and a caretaker,” the director added.

REEL DEAL: 'Mr. Go' is World's First Gorilla Pinch Hitter

The world's first gorilla pinch hitter is here! Mr. Go is a light-hearted, genial story with a baseball-playing gorilla and his 15-year old manager, who become superstars after playing in the Korean Baseball League.

Young circus ringmaster Wei Wei has only bat-swinging gorilla Ling Ling to depend on as her only family member and friend, her grandfather, dies in the Great Sichuan Earthquake, leaving behind an insurmountable debt. When a loan shark threatens to sell Ling Ling and the circus kids to cover the debt, Wei Wei has no choice but to allow Ling Ling to be scouted in the Korean Baseball League by the materialistic sports agent Sung.

Ling Ling, now dubbed ‘Mr. Go’, becomes an instant hit with fans and leads his team Doosan to a miraculous winning streak. No pitcher can stand up to Mr. Go’s powerful single-handed swing, and they watch helplessly as the ball flies out of the park. His popularity grows so immensely that even the fans of his opposing teams cheer for him, and single-handedly attracts worldwide media attention to the league. Wei Wei and Sung are stunned and blinded by the sudden success, and neglect to detect Ling Ling’s worsening knee injury, just as Japanese clubs are drafting ground breaking trade propositions.

Catch this heart-warming film of Wei Wei and Mr. Go and their miraculous run in the Korean Baseball League in selected SM Cinema branches starting October 16, 2013.
