Dwayne Johnson, from Bullied Kid to Lethal Agent in "Central Intelligence"

Dwayne Johnson has solidified himself as a global box-office powerhouse with film revenues exceeding $2 billion worldwide. After doing consecutive action thrillers (“San Andreas,” “Fast & Furious 7”), he returns to the action comedy genre for Universal Pictures' “Central Intelligence,” opening in Philippine cinemas June 15th.

“Central Intelligence” follows Bob (Johnson), a one-time bullied geek who grew up to be a lethal CIA agent, coming home for his high-school reunion. Claiming to be on a top-secret case, he enlists the help of the former “big man on campus” Calvin (Kevin Hart), now an accountant who misses his glory days. But before the staid numbers-cruncher realizes what he’s getting into, it’s too late to get out, as his increasingly unpredictable new friend drags him through a world of shoot-outs, double-crosses and espionage that could get them both killed in more ways than he can count.

"The Conjuring 2" Scares Off Competition Worldwide, Grosses P106-M in PH‏

One of the most anticipated movies of the summer, James Wan’s sequel to 2013’s record-breaking supernatural thriller summoned up $90.350 million at the worldwide box office, making “The Conjuring 2” #1 in its opening weekend in North America and expecting to be #1 internationally, outside of China. The announcement was made June 12 by Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President, Worldwide Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

Coming off of a strong Thursday night total of $3.4 million domestically, the film took in $40.350 million in North America, marking the largest domestic horror opening since 2013’s “The Conjuring,” which went on to gross $319 million in theaters worldwide. Internationally, the film took in a sensational $50 million, doubling “The Conjuring” in the same opening markets. These early successes, along with an A- Cinema Score and a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, indicate the “The Conjuring 2” is poised to scare up excellent numbers as it expands into additional territories in the coming weeks.

Historic sites help define a country’s identity, allowing us a peek at all the triumphs and challenges that have made it a nation. However, through the years, many heritage sites suffer from damages wrought by modernization, natural calamities, and even by pests like termites and woodborers.

In their desire to contribute to the preservation of such historical markers, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) and Jardine Distribution, Inc (JDI). continue its efforts in preserving historical sites

Boy band singer Joshua Bulot is the new ‘Tolits’ of ‘Rak of Aegis’

It never occurred to boy band singer Joshua Bulot, who’s best known as a member of vocal trio JBK, that he would one day perform on a theatre stage, much less in the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA)’s hit comedy musical ‘Rak of Aegis’. On its fifth comeback, the highly acclaimed production is poised to introduce fresh new talents, which include JBK’s Joshua who snagged the role of Venizia’s lover boy, ‘Tolits’.

“I still can’t believe that I am playing ‘Tolits’ in the wildly popular musical because this is going to be vastly different from my performances as a member of a boy band,” the 23-year-old vocalist says. “I’m taking this as a huge opportunity to show that I can be a versatile artist. I’m ready to prove that I can do it.”

While Joshua notes that it is a big leap from singing before hordes of screaming fan girls to performing before the theatre crowd, he admits that the bigger challenge is being on the same stage as the original ‘Rak’ cast members—like the golden couple Robert and Isay Seña.

Ginebra San Miguel's Introduces Primera Light Brandy With Ian Veneracion

Ginebra San Miguel Inc. (GSMI) introduced “man of the hour” Ian Veneracion as the newest endorser of its liquor brand Primera Light Brandy. In a grand press launch and contract signing held recently, the multi-talented actor was welcomed to the GSMI family by its president Bernard Marquez, group brand manager Paul Camello, and brand manager Henry Simon.

Ian, who won the hearts of many after starring in a hit primetime teleserye and movie, relates that being “swabe” is important when dealing with both his work and personal life. “After a ‘tamang swabe’ day of shooting or taping, I just want to relax and drink something smooth. So when I’m with friends we usually just open a bottle of Primera Light Brandy,” says Ian, who finally found the smoothness that he had been looking for in a brandy. “Primera Light Brandy is smoother than other brands, and I love how it tastes,” he adds.
