Globe, DITO now interconnected on mobile calls, SMS

Globe customers can now make domestic mobile calls and send SMS to DITO Telecommunity subscribers and vice versa following the successful interconnection of services of the two telcos.

“This effort is a reflection of Globe’s commitment to fair and healthy competition in the telco industry, as well as its adherence to the rules and regulations prevailing in competition and telecom laws,” said Atty. Froilan Castelo, Globe General Counsel.

Globe is also working to finalize the interconnection of fixed landline service with DITO.

LRMC cancels LRT-1 service suspension on April 24-25

Private operator of LRT-1 Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) announces that LRT-1 operations will no longer be suspended on 24 – 25 April 2021 as majority of the planned maintenance works have already been completed ahead of schedule.

LRMC previously announced that two weekends in April will be needed to complete the remaining maintenance of trains, stations, and various systems including overhead catenary system started during the Holy Week. Major rehabilitation works were performed to continuously ensure the safety and reliability of the LRT-1 system.

LRMC Chief Operating Officer Enrico Benipayo said, "We recognize the role of public transport in ensuring the mobility of essential services and understand the needs of our commuters this pandemic. Our Engineering team did their best to accelerate and compress activities through improved planning and coordination. LRT-1 will no longer need another 1-weekend shutdown and will be back to serve our passengers this coming weekend."

Taiwan Releases Asia’s First Series about Gay Parenting, Papa & Daddy

Papa & Daddy, Asia’s very first gay parenting series, will be made available worldwide on GagaOOLala beginning April 23rd, 2021. The six-episode gay family comedy, supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, is written and directed by Nancy Chen and stars Malaysian Chinese actor and singer Melvin Sia (謝佳見) and Taiwanese actor Mike Lin (林輝瑝).

The series follows Damian (Melvin Sia), a 38-year-old overseas Taiwanese and recent divorcé, who returns to Taipei to open his dream restaurant, Verso. While at Verso, Damian meets and falls for Jerry (Mike Lin), a 28-year-old YouTube vlogger. As their relationship progresses, Damian wishes to start a family with Jerry but Jerry is reluctant to take on parental duties at such an early age. However, four years later and through surrogacy, Damian and Jerry officially become gay parents to their four-year-old son, Kai Kai (Kai Lin). Amidst all these developments, Jerry is still yet to come out to his parents, who live in rural Hualien and finds himself increasingly pressured by them to get married to a woman.

Ookla®: Globe network consistency score up; maintains winning gaming standards in latency

Globe’s mobile services continue to improve as the company sustains its aggressive roll out and network modernization to 4G LTE and 5G in more areas across the country.

According to Ookla®’s Q1 2021 data, the telco’s nationwide consistency score is now more than 70 percent.  Metro Manila registered Globe’s best score with more than 76 percent while impressive percentages were also noted in Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite, Cebu City and Davao City.

Consistency Score is the percent of tests taken that is above a certain speed.  The global benchmark for consistency score is 80 percent.

Globe customers raise P3.4M donations via Rewards points for 1Q21

Globe continues to engage its customers to support organizations and advocacies of their choice through Globe Rewards as the pandemic drags on. In the first quarter of 2021 alone, customers have donated P3.4 million worth of Rewards points to help those in need. 

The donations will help extend medical support to 55 indigent cancer patients and to provide meals, accommodations, and personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontliners at the Philippine General Hospital.  It will also support elderly priests and brothers, help facilitate the training of mental health frontline responders, aid in the purchase of polio vaccines for children under the care of Rotary Foundation, and support the child welfare and disaster response programs of ABS-CBN Bantay Bata.

Part of the funds raised will also provide 462 public school teachers with connectivity under the Brigada ng Ayala program, and 51 marine conservation kits and learning materials to youth leaders.
