REEL DEAL: Hail, Caesar! REVIEW

What was hollywood fifty to sixty years ago? That can be perfectly described in the comedic satire of old Hollywood in “Hail, Caesar!” exclusively at SM Cinema beginning March 16. It stars George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, and Channing Tatum.

The world’s biggest movie star (Clooney) is kidnapped and his abductors called, “the Future” who demand a great ransom for his safe return. It will take the power of Hollywood’s biggest names to solve the mystery of his disappearance. Set in the early 1950’s when Hollywood was at its golden age, the movie is a parody of the motion picture industry when its glamorous façade began to show visible cracks and the major studios were faced with the growth of its new rival: Television.
Made by  four-time Oscar®-winning filmmakers Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, the movie follows a fifties hollywood treatment from start to finish, although some of the reel are "too clean", the production, music, and the others follow that feel. It does look refreshing from our timeline with all films following the modern look and texture. This movie proves to be different yet faces the challenges to relate to the modern audience.

Hail, Caesar! stars Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Alden Ehrenreich, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, and Channing Tatum.

“Hail, Caesar!” cinexclusively shows in SM Cinema on March 16 onwards. For ticket inquiries or more information, log on to www.smcinema.com.

Deliberation time kids!

Show summary in 3 lines: Be A Star!

Technical Effects: 3 out of 5 stars (Real as the fifties, although the look is "too clean")

Plot: 2 out of 5 stars (The plot was good for the first part then, it goes nowhere afterwards)

Acting and Actors: 4 out of 5 stars (Josh Brolin did great to be the star versus the "star")

Pros:  production design, actors

Cons: side plot, ending

Music and Soundtracks:  5 out for 5 stars (Authentic for that period, without a drop of modern time)

Overall: Rating 4.0 out of 5 stars (It has a great concept, a black comedy served fifties american style yet some scenes does not connect)
