REEL DEAL: A Family Man (A Headhunter's Calling) REVIEW

Who knew that Gerald Butler can do a little heavy drama? Knowing him in 300, Olympus Has Fallen, and The Bounty Hunter, his image is drawn into action and/or comedy which makes it hard to imagine that he would do emotional scenes. Well that is what he did in  A Family Man (working title "A Headhunter's Calling") which calls him to tap into this unusual role.

Here he is Dane Jensen, a headhunter who faces a fierce competition to reach his goals and be a good provider for his family. But being very busy eventually takes a toll with his family. This brings tribulations to the strong and confident headhunter who will face his breaking point.

I don't know why they have to change the original title which is actually more appealing than "A Family Man". It seems so generic and already gave away the premise that he is a provider for the family. The original title seems poetic, but oh well, the actual is more important than the title right?

I see that Willem Dafoe and Alison Brie shine despite their supporting role, yes they play a pivotal factor to Dane Jensen and his family. It is a family movie with the right simplicity and drama but with a familiar plot.

A Family Man stars Gerard Butler, Gretchen Mol, Alison Brie, Anupam Kher, Alfred Molina, and Willem Dafoe. Showing in cinemas  on August 23.

Deliberation time kids!

Show summary in 3 lines: What's Your Profession?

Technical Effects: 3 out of 5 stars (Some shots were beautifully made, brings out emotions and meh scenes remain meh)

Plot: 1 out of 5 stars (This plot has been used too many times)

Acting and Actors: 3 out of 5 stars (Good ensemble, despite formulaic plot)

Pros:  Supporting characters, silent moments

Cons: Predictable ending, cliches

Music and Soundtracks:  3 out for 5 stars (I hope they would have something like a iconic song that goes well with the film)

Overall: Rating 3.9 out of 5 stars (A refreshing Gerald Butler is indeed something, but the support characters were really good as well)
