Globe projects higher 5G device penetration among its customers this year with the continuous expansion of 5G coverage in the country and the release of more affordable handsets.
As of end-December 2021, Globe detected over 1.62 million 5G devices in its network, a huge chunk of which came from prepaid brands. This shows a staggering 300% ownership growth in the fourth quarter versus the first quarter of last year.
“We expect this momentum to continue, especially as all major device partners today carry and banner 5G handsets in their portfolios coupled with our continued 5G network expansion,” said Darius Delgado, Globe Head of Consumer Mobile Business.
Globe is relentless in its efforts to fortify its supremacy in delivering a #1stWorldNetwork to Filipinos nationwide. It now has over 2,000 5G sites providing outdoor coverage for 96% of the National Capital Region and 84% of key cities in Visayas and Mindanao.
The expansion activities were supplemented by the company’s efforts to push 5G adoption through product offers and education so that customers can experience the full power of the new technology. Globe has made several entry-level and mid-range 5G models available for free if subscribed to a postpaid plan or at a price that is easy on the wallet if bought separately.
With speeds up to 7x faster than that of 4G, 5G technology offers the fastest mobile connectivity and download speeds at present.
Likewise, Globe added 5G roaming services in more countries in Europe, making it the only Philippine telco with the widest 5G coverage in the continent. It continues to partner with more 5G-ready telcos worldwide to allow customers to enjoy a convenient high-speed data roaming experience.
Globe pioneered 5G technology in the Philippines, the first operator in Southeast Asia to commercially launch 5G AirFiber for Home use in 2019.
Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 9, highlighting the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. It is committed to upholding the United Nations Global Compact principles and contributing to 10 UN SDGs.
