Breaking News: "Avengers: Infinity War" Breaks PH Opening Day Records

Philippine box-office records were shattered at the opening day of Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War”

Arriving with unprecedented excitement, mystery, and anticipation, “Avengers: Infinity War” opened yesterday to a record-shattering P141.6 million (USD 2.7M), creating a new milestone in local film history. This marks the biggest-ever opening day in the Philippines and the biggest single day gross box office for any film.

Avengers: Infinity War opened its first day in 829 screens nationwide with screening schedules starting as early as 8 am.

"A Quiet Place" Ascends to #1 in 2nd Weekend, Grosses P144.9-M To Date

The sound of silence has never been louder as Paramount Pictures' surprise hit A Quiet Place climbed up to the No. 1 spot in Philippine box-office for its 2nd week of release, earning more than its opening weekend. This according to Columbia Pictures, the film's local distributor.

For the period April 18-22, the suspense thriller about a family trying to survive in a world with aliens that hunt based on sound, grossed a thunderous P79.5 million, almost doubling-up its opening weekend gross of P41.7 million. A rare feat that only happens because of fantastic world of mouth and repeat viewings.

"Ready Player One" Surpasses $500 Million Worldwide

The widely acclaimed action adventure “Ready Player One,” from Warner Bros. Pictures, Amblin Entertainment and Village Roadshow Pictures, has crossed half a billion dollars at the worldwide box office.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, “Ready Player One” has been a hit in every corner of the globe. Domestically, the movie has taken in more the $120.6 million to date and counting. On the international front, where the box office has been climbing steadily, the film is already at an estimated $379.5 million, including China, where “Ready Player One” has earned more than $200 million (RMB 1.3b). Other markets continue to show strong results, including the UK ($21.1 million), Korea ($17.7 million), France ($16.8 million) and Russia ($12 million).

"A Quiet Place" Surpasses the P100-M Mark in PH Box-Office

After its resounding P41.7-M debut last week, Paramount Pictures' horror-thriller A Quiet Place continued to make noise at the Philippine box-office, breaching the P100-M milestone in just ten days of release. This was announced today by Columbia Pictures, the film's local distributor.

Acclaimed Thriller "A Quiet Place" Grosses P41.7-M in 5 Days

Paramount Pictures' A Quiet Place posted a five-day opening weekend gross of P41.7 million in the Philppines, becoming the studio's second most successful launch for a horror-thriller, after 2013's World War Z.

Arriving with some of the year's most positive reviews, the Emily Blunt-starrer directed by her real-life husband, John Krasinski, has riveted local film critics with some already calling it “the year's best horror-thriller.”

American reviewers have also likened it's success to that of the Oscar-winning thriller Get Out, and there is already talks of possible Academy Awards nominations next year.

"Rampage" Tears Across Competition to Take #1 at PH Box-Office

“Rampage,” starring Dwayne Johnson, tore across Philippine theatres, grossing a four-day weekend total of P59.7-million at the box office. The announcement was made today by Francis Soliven, General Manager of Warner Bros. Philippines.

Thrilling audiences with its epic scope, cutting-edge visual effects, over-the-top action sequences and stunts, rampaging monsters, and unexpected humor and heart, the new action-adventure gave WB Philippines its biggest opening of the year todate, outgrossing last month's “Tomb Raider.”

Paramount Pictures' thriller A Quiet Place thundered to a smash No.1 opening at the U.S. weekend box office, with a massive $50.3 million in 3,508 theaters.

That marks the second highest domestic opening of the year to date behind only Black Panther.

Directed and co-written by John Krasinski who also stars alongside Emily Blunt, A Quiet Place has garnered rave reviews, currently holding an solid 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, with a B+ CinemaScore.

Paramount’s president of domestic distribution Kyle Davies, attributed the film’s success to positive word of mouth. “There was a lot of momentum going into the weekend that never stopped,” Davies said. “John Krasinski has emerged as an incredible filmmaker with a story that’s simple, but has clearly resonated with audiences.”

"Pacific Rim Uprising" Opens at No.1 with P47.2-M for 2-Day Easter Weekend

Universal Pictures' monsters vs. robots epic adventure Pacific Rim Uprising arrived in Philippine cinemas at No.1 for the Easter Weekend.  The highly awaited sequel scored a robust P47.2-M in box-office gross in two days, March 31 and April 1. 

The crowd-pleasing movie is expected to generate further interest and increase sales, echoing its global trend.  So far, Pacific Rim Uprising has made a smash $231.9 million worldwide.

John Boyega (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju.” Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. "Black Panther" Breaks Record for Year's Biggest 1st-Day Gross in PH

Marvel Studios' Black Panther opened Wednesday, Feb 14 in the Philippines and scored the year's biggest first-day gross to-date with a staggering P45.10-M in box-office sales.

Comparatively, the Wakandan King outperformed the opening day numbers of recent Marvel titles, including 2015's Ant-Man (by 235%), 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy (by 183%), 2016's Doctor Strange (by 124%), 2014's Captain America: The Winter Solidier (by 63%) and last year's Thor: Ragnarok (by 41%).

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" Opens at No.1, Grosses P145.2-M in 5 Days

The Philippines is one with The Force as Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi grossed a staggering P145.2-M in its first five days of release, opening at No.1 for the Dec. 13-17 frame.

Receiving some of the most glowing reviews in years, the Rian Johnson-directed tentpole was lauded by local critics and fans alike, with some even saying its the best Star Wars movie yet.

The biggest box-office grosses were reported by SM Megamall (P7.1-M), SM Mall of Asia (P6.5-M) and SM North EDSA (P5.6-M).

New Line Cinema's "IT" a Monster Hit at PH Box-Office

New Line Cinema’s IT, the critically lauded big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s perennial best seller, floated to the top of the Philippine box office on its opening weekend, earning P50.18-million across 213 cinemas, and still climbing.

Directed by Andy Muschietti (Mama), the much-anticipated horror thriller has surpassed the opening figures of recent horror blockbusters, The Conjuring (P39-M) and Lights Out (P36.7-M).
