Disney-Pixar's “Cars 3,” the latest installment in the beloved Cars series, raced to a smash P40.8-million opening weekend nationwide, ranking as the No.1 foreign movie for the July 26 – July 30 frame.

This was announced today by The Walt Disney Company (Philippines).

Life-Sized Lightning McQueen Model Now on Display at SM North EDSA

Former professional car racing champion and popular actor Matteo Guidicelli led the highly anticipated unveiling of the life-sized Lightning McQueen model during the Disney-Pixar's “Cars 3” Mall Event launch at SM North EDSA The Block yesterday.

Fans and families came in droves to witness the big-reveal of everyone’s favorite Piston Cup champ that is now on full display at The Block Atrium.

“The `Cars' film series of Disney and Pixar is close to my heart, and Lightning McQueen is definitely one of my most favorite characters that I can relate to due to our similar experiece as a racer,” Guidicelli said prior to the unveiling. “And I'm excited for everyone to see `Cars 3!' It's very entertaining, with lots of lessons to take home.”

Print all In new window Owen Wilson Speaks for Lightning McQueen in "Cars 3"

Owen Wilson provides the voice once again for the beloved character Lightning McQueen in Disney-Pixar's Cars 3, due in Philippine cinemas July 26.

McQueen is a world champion racer who’s riding high with five Piston-Cup wins under his hood. Suddenly, he finds himself faced with a new generation of racers who threaten not only his dominance in the sport—but the confidence that got him there. Determined to get back to the pole position, the #95 must decide if his love for racing is enough to fuel the comeback of his life.

Kerry Washington is Know-It-All, Nerdy Analyst in "Cars 3"

Multi-awarded African-American actress Kerry Washington (Django Unchained, TV's Scandal), lends her voice to Natalie Certain, a highly respected statistical analyst who knows her numbers, in Disney-Pixar's No.1 US box-office hit Cars 3 (in Philippine cinemas July 26, 2017).

Book-smart and mathematically gifted, Certain is a fresh voice in the racing world. But while she may earn top marks in her ability to evaluate a racer’s stats, she could be underestimating the importance of determination.

SM, Disney to Launch "Cars 3" Mall Event at SM North EDSA July 19

Racers, start your engines and rev up for a rare treat as The Walt Disney Company (Philippines) and SM Lifestyle Entertainment Inc. (SM-LEI) launch the “Cars 3” Mall Event at The Block Atrium on Wednesday, July 19.

In celebration of the theatrical release of “Cars 3” on July 26, Disney and SM will provide mall-goers a taste of life in the fast lane, as they unveil a life-sized Lightning McQueen model, to be the centerpiece of the mall event.

Former professional car racing champion and now popular actor Matteo Guidicelli will lead the ceremonial unveiling of everyone’s favorite Piston Cup champ on July 19 at 4PM at The Block Atrium.

Armie Hammer's Jackson Storm: Fast, Sleek, Ready to Win in "Cars 3"

Armie Hammer (The Social Network, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) breathes life to Jackson Storm, a frontrunner in the next generation of racers, in Disney-Pixar's No.1 US box-office hit Cars 3 (in Philippine cinemas July 26, 2017).

In the film, Storm’s quiet confidence and cocky demeanor are off-putting—but his unmatched speed threatens to redefine the sport. Trained on high-tech simulators that are programmed to perfect technique and maximize velocity, Jackson Storm is literally built to be unbeatable—and he knows it.

“Jackson Storm epitomizes the next-gen racers,” says Armie Hammer. “They’re young, brash and confident. Jackson Storm is newer and faster. He can calculate the drag coefficient on the spot. It’s hard to compete with that.”

“Jackson Storm is Lightning McQueen’s nemesis—the film’s baddie,” adds Jay Ward, Cars franchise creative director. “Though he isn’t really a true villain. He represents what’s happening in racing—both in the movie and in real life. A lot of young racers getting into motorsport have more experience playing videogames and simulators than on an actual track. And they are winning races.”

"Cars 3" Races to the Screen for Series' Biggest Adventure Yet

Lightning McQueen is back on the big screen in Disney-Pixar’s Cars 3 -- but he’s not a rookie anymore. Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Piston-Cup champion finds himself suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves.

“The next-gen racers are cool,” says Cars 3 director Brian Fee. “You can see instantly that cars like Jackson Storm are effortlessly fast. We designed these younger, faster cars to be sleek and aerodynamic—and they’re a sharp contrast to Lightning McQueen.”
