Olympian Michael Martinez Is Back And Buff!

Philippines' Winter Olympian Michael Martinez comes back home to pursue new heights in his career. Though he might have put his skates aside, his passion for the sport still continues. His presence was quite quiet in the past few years as he stayed in the US and even got a day job.

His online presence is still followed by fans and was very surprised with his transformation from a lean teenager now buffed up as he also grew in size and even got the Olympic rings tattooed on his chest. Now 21, he said that his comeback here in the Philippines will also mean meeting brands and partners which will open old and new partnerships for him.

Though he was quite disappointed when he failed to qualify for the recent Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, he will continue to work to make the Olympic dream come true. He shared that made a successful quad axel jump which was considered an impossible feat for competitive figure skating.

Philippine National Figure Skating Championships

On November 26-27, 2014, SM Skating Rink, along with the Philippine Skating Union will hold the Philippine’s National Figure Skating Championships—a competition that is designed to emerge a pool of skaters positioned to represent the country in the upcoming international skating competitions.

Earlier this year, the world laid witness to the Philippines’ home-grown figure skater, Michael Martinez, make his mark in the global arena as the first South East Asian figure skater to enter the Winter Olympics. Now managed by SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc., SM skating rink aims to develop a group of athletes specializing in winter-based sports who are capable and ready to represent the Philippines in 2015 ice skating competitions.

The 2014 Philippine National Figure Skating Championship is a step toward accomplishing the brand’s goal to recognize the potential of each skater. Catering solely to Filipino and Filipino-Foreign figure skaters, the Philippine National Figure Skating Competition gives Filipinos the chance to showcase their talents on a formal platform.

Michael Martinez became an inspiration for Filipinos that it is possible to be a winter Olympian despite living in a tropical country. After competing at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, the interest in the sport grew more and more. 

Now Michael is off to the US to compete in the Hilton HHonors Skate America to be held in Chicago Illinois in October 22-26.Michael was one of the select few invited by the organizing committee of the Hilton Hhonors to compete in this prestigious event. Only World Top Ranking skaters, which Martinez ranks 27th, are requested to attend the competition.
